Just finished. I had remembered that the closing credits were also amazing, but I'd forgotten just how amazing.
Damn, that movie has so many virtues and its many virtues are so spectacular. Its only, only flaw is Jim Carrey; I could forgive his presence more easily if everything else weren't so very, very good.
Unfortunate Glee:Hawaii Five-O sighting. I found myself utterly unable to believe that a Filipino terror organization was headed up by Coach Tanaka.
Ha, yes, I saw that episode too. Though I doubt this is the right thread.

I keep thinking I want to watch
A Series of Unfortunate Events
again, and then I remember HOW MUCH Jim Carrey ruined the movie for me.

Actually his impact lessens on repeat viewings. You spend more time (a) loving the kid casting; (b) loving the costuming; (c) loving the set designs; (e) loving the opening and closing credits; and (f) loving the supporting actors, especially Meryl Streep just killing in one of her all-time best comic roles.

This is the effect Jim Carrey has for me for every movie I've seen him in.

I like
The Mask
and
The Truman Show.
And I may try and rewatch ASOUE soon, if it's on Nexflix Instant.
So today we watched
The Devil Bat,
in which Bela Lugosi concocts a special aftershave to put on his victims ("Rub it on the tender parts of your neck"). The aftershave attracts the gigantic DEVIL BAT he creates with electricity and glandular...something or other. It's so ridiculous, but it's a really good bad movie! Very entertaining.

I wanted to like The Truman Show, really I did, because my Ed Harris love knows no bounds (I even watched Milk Money, for god's sake), and because people kept saying "Oh, but Jim Carrey's not really LIKE his other roles in this!"
Uh, no. He's my movie kryptonite. He's never, ever the character he plays; he's just Jim Carrey, dressed differently. And I include the Riddler in that sweeping statement.
If forced to choose (DINAO), I would watch an Adam goddamn Sandler movie over a Jim Carrey movie.
