It's hard to make Wutherings Heights worthwhile, although the Olivier version got close when it cut the second half of the book.
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I saw RocknRolla about a year ago and I found the movie to be very misogynist. I was kind of surprised that I had this reaction because I watch a lot of action movies that aren't exactly feminist movies.
Just FYI for those going on.
To me Wuthering Heights is interesting because it's pathological. It's a full on horrorshow of punk rock nihilism. I'd kind of like to see the Ian McShane version.
Hmm. I also hate Wuthering Heights. But I do like Tom Hardy.
I am currently listening to an biography of the Victorian author Thomas Hardy on CD. So, everytime I see someone post about Tom Hardy, who I assume is an actor, I do a double take.
Oh, god, no. I despise Thomas Hardy. Hopefully Tom Hardy will never star in Jude the Obscure.
I'm cleaning off my dvr a bit, and finally watched Hairspray from last weekend's broadcast on USA. Hadn't seen it before, nor have I seen any version of the film (stage or screen) other than the original with Ricki Lake. It was a damn cute film! I might have to snag a dvd of it for future viewings. Travolta grew on me by the end of the film, but I have to say that my love for Christopher Walken increased tenfold after their number. Loved seeing him dancing through the laundry with Travolta! But, Travolta is no Divine--nobody can be.
I still vastly prefer the original film, but think that the performances that were improved in this musical version were Corky Collins, Queen Latifah's Mama Maybelle, and Allyson Janey as Penny's mom.
Okay! Fresh from viewing number three.

Effing brilliant. Don't think I'll see it again in theaters, but glad to have ponied up for Imax.
smonster,
thanks for this. Beau and I want to go see it again, and I was wondering if I should do imax the 2nd time.
Oh! And my roommate went with us, and she hadn't seen it or even a trailer, had no idea what it was about. She didn't even know who was in it until she saw the poster at the theater. She totally loved it and is already planning to go again.
eta you're welcome, le n!
i'm hoping to go see it again tomorrow!
