I liked JGL on 3rd Rock, but became a fan of his when I saw Mysterious Skin. Not a happy movie, by any moods, but good.

Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Ooh, I like. Especially the "kick" graphics. And the fact that the outermost layer is labeled "airplane" and not "reality."
I'm sure this is obvious, but I hadn't thought about it until my coworker mentioned it -- how the objects signify the characters -- the pawn, the loaded die.
Heh - a friend on LJ just pointed out that most people have been assuming that, even if the whole movie is a dream, Cobb exists in reality and has/had a wife and kids and some kind of tragic backstory. But if the whole movie is a dream, Cobb is much more likely to just be some boring dude who fell asleep on a train and is going to miss his stop and be late for work. Hee.
I was wondering, if Cobb was in a dream, whose was he in, or was he just stuck in limbo. I hadn't thought of it as a normal one, since it was much too linear.
Whereas I was teaching Mal the GL oath this weekend, and the DH said "He doesn't REALLY say something THAT CORNY?!?!"
Sometimes being post-modern really kicks ya in the butt.
