Mark and I saw
Inception
this weekend and both enjoyed it a lot. My favorite scenes were definitely Joseph Gordon-Levitt
on his own in the hotel: fighting in zero-gravity or while the ground is tilting wildly, tying all the sleepers together to put them in the elevator -- just breathtakingly cool.
So much about the movie reminded me of
The Matrix,
in a good way, both philosophically and in terms of the special effects, which were not just super awesome but also perfectly utilized.
I do wish, though, that I had acted on my instincts and asked here, before seeing the movie, whether or not
anyone gets run over by a train, since that was how Mark's brother died three weeks ago. I had convinced myself that the odds were so low that it wasn't worth asking about, so I was completely shocked to actually see that scene on the screen. Not a good moment.
The rest of the movie was good enough to balance out that scene, but it definitely was not the escapist fare I'd been expecting, what with
Leo grieving his dead wife and needing to let her go.
Anyway, it gave us lots to think and talk about, and was really fun and absorbing. With bonus badass JGL!

JGL didn't often have the chance on 3rd Rock, but it was magic when he did have the opportunity to play his character, the elder of the aliens. He displayed the age, grace, and wisdom of the entity who was only wearing the disguise of a teenaged boy, and he did it with apparent ease. I learned to appreciate his talent then.
Thanks, smonster. It was a weird moment for sure. I just kept thinking, "I *knew* I should have checked!!"
And much ~ma to your grandfather. I hope he sticks around to annoy you for many years still!
His work in "The Lookout" is genius, also, and still comic, despite the dark subject matter and him playing brain-injured....he made me believe it and that's a hard thing to fool me about...I'm very critical of actors, well, gimping it up, although I'm not one of those people who think every disabled part should be played by a disabled actor. Two words about that: Hugh. Laurie.
But JGL has got to be up in the top %.

My coworker was saying today that she was embarassed to admit both that she had seem that and that she didn't remember JG-L being in it.
Apparently Ryan Reynolds recited the Green Lantern oath to a young fan at Comic Con on demand.
Did people bitch about his casting as GL? I'm hugely biased, but the love just keeps growing and growing.
