The other totally ridiculous Don't Ask, Don't Tell case was with Arabic translators. The Army fired a whole bunch of Arabic translators a few years ago after finding out that they were gay. The Army is constantly short of Arabic translators -- the number of people who are fluent in Arabic, want to work for the US Army, and can get the security clearance required (which is very unlikely for most people who were born in most Arabic-speaking countries, and even a lot of people whose parents were born or who have close relatives or friends there) is tiny. The Army is constantly going to universities that have Arabic language programs and practically begging people to work for them. And yet, fired a bunch for being gay.
