I just finished grading my students' quizzes from yesterday. Out of 20 points, about a third got between 15 and 20, another third got between 10 and 14, and another third got between 5 and 9. I'm trying to figure out what's going on with that last third. Am I not teaching the material well enough? Are they not studying enough? Are they not prepared enough for this class? (The material this semester builds on the material from last semester, and I have been seeing a bunch of errors with last semester's stuff.)

An amusing encounter in the grocery store last night - a woman came up and offered me her card - she's a psychic. Then I had to help her find the tea bags.

well, I found it amusing.

Toddson, if she'd had the tea to read she wouldn't need your help.

But shouldn't a psychic be able to find tea bags? considering that there were signs over the aisles - in English and Spanish! - to help out?

Her powers were second hand, or bought at an outlet mall.

And if she could read you so well that she knew that you needed her, couldn't she read where the tea bags were, since you knew where they were?

Not to mention that they were, logically, with the coffee, which you could smell.

Hivemind question - does anyone know what I'm talking about - I'm looking for a metal ring, maby 5-6 inches in diameter, it has a hinge, and you sort of pry the edges apart in a certain place to open it, it's a sort of clasp I guess.

I know that i'm describing it interminably badly, and I can't even remember where I saw it or in what context, but I need one and have no idea where to look. I thought I'd start with a hardware store, but I don't want to embarass myself with that description :)
