[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I'm going to have to take out a student loan for next year. Never had a student loan before, and the information that I'm finding online is confusing. Anyone who's done this before know the basics of what I'm supposed to do?

Hil, I wish I could help, but it's been over 12 years since I've applied, and Al Gore invented the Internets, and they blossomed, and I suspect everything is different. I'd advise talking to your financial aid department. There will be lots of forms. They will require tax forms from the past few years. I think going through the Government is better than through a bank, but that's just me. good luck!

Yeah, I'm planning to go talk to the financial aid people tomorrow. My teaching assistantship runs out after this semester, and my parents said they could help me some, but it's not going to be enough for all my expenses and stuff. What I really need to talk to the financial aid people about is whether I qualify as a "full- or part-time student," since the university just has us register for a one-credit class while we're doing dissertation research.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Hil, you should be considered a FT student if you are working on your dissertation, or at least that's how it worked lo these many years ago when I was ABD.

I checked the website. Buried way in the back of a form, it said that if I'm working on my dissertation and taking fewer than five credits, there's yet another form to fill out and have my adviser and dean sign to certify that the amount of work I'm doing is equivalent to at least part time. So that works out to something like six separate forms I need to fill out so far.

But there has to be a formula somewhere that says, the more forms you fill out, the more likely you are to get some dough.

That would be nice.

Argh. I hate filling out forms. Forms are confusing and ask weird questions that I don't understand.

I think I'll call my sister tomorrow. She's a tax lawyer/accountant, and got student loans for law school just a few years ago. She can probably explain this stuff to me.

Our wings are not tired

I *love* the Civic (better visibility than the Accord, wonderful to drive, and the new Leather Seat model offers the one thing I wish ours had--seat warmers). I was going to get a Fit (zippy! fun! cute!) until we drove the Civic.

I've been hit or miss with Hondas. Some of them I like and some just don't work at all for me. Having now had the one Mercedes I think I've ruined myself for a lot of cars. I can understand why the C class is known as the gateway Mercedes. They really do use it to lure you in.

maybe we should form an intervention for ND before it gets too late. Gateway and all. Was the first one free? That's how they usually lure you in.
