I did have a pang of "am I too old?" when I tried a sample from the gothic lolita collection, but it was such a perfect color.
Ooh, which color? And no, you are not "too old" to wear it.
Precisely. There are some gorgeous, gorgeous colors in that collection. I have several and love them to pieces. Because I am not too old for them and neither are you, Burrell.
just knocking on the front door of every house that had a Yes on 8 sign in the yard, being invited in for coffee because they were all neighbors and all knew each other, and outing herself to one neighbor after another, just looking them all in the eye and saying, "When you put that sign up, you were talking about me, to me. Let me tell you what that means to me."
That is so brave. Awful that it needed to be done at all, but I am reminded that some people are amazing when I read stories like this.
It's a simple waist cincher style. I want a plain white dress to wear under it.
Sounds great, sj. Best of luck with finding the perfect dress!
Congrats to Calluna! Two fantastic pieces of news! Your wedding sounds like it was fab.
JZ, the marriage equality service sounds amazing.
She knocked on 199 doors, and 198 people took their signs down. (She never asked them to, they just did it.)
That's just so awesome and inspiring. The Girl came back with similarly brave stories from the anti-homphobic crime vigil last week. People, and their determination to fight for change and against hate, never cease to amaze me.
Brain still explodey from last nights call. I need to remind myself, it's just talk, not an offer yet. But if it becomes an offer, oy. So much not finished here, and will take a few years before things are at a plateau that feels like I accomplished something. Ugg.
Omnis! Your opening night got a mention in the Economist. [link]
I am having a hard time celebrating marriage when it's denied to so many people for no goddamn good reason except fear and hatred.
But, regardless- I am very happy for you and your new family, Callaluna!
Congratuations to Callaluna! Baby girls are awesome, says she with 5 1/2 months experience.
I got a jury summons and Maryland doesn't specifically recognize breastfeeding as a reason to ask for an exemption or postponement. Wish my letter asking for a 6 month postponement luck in finding the right sympathetic reader.

Amazing, just so inspiring.
Stayed up too late last night watching V and SYTYCD, but did manage to catch the "on time" bus today, though I wanted to catch the "early" bus. About the latter show I just have to say - Wade Robson, never change.

Are you really sure you want to leave Massachusetts? Not that California won't be delighted to get you (and not that I'm not exploding with excitement at you coming to the Bay Area, because I am), but your current home state is one of the few in the country doing right by its citizens in this regard. It's a pretty awesome place, really.

With the first neighbor, she was shaking and crying (which apparently is very unlike her), both from fear and because she knew this woman and had considered her a good, friendly neighbor. So when she knocked on the door tears were running down her face, and when the neighbor saw her she gasped and said, "Oh, my dear! What happened? Come in, have some coffee, tell me what's wrong." And, because she'd been thoughtless but not malicious, she was completely horrified and ashamed to realize that
she
was what had happened. It's the kind of thing that can really only happen in a small town where everyone at least knows everyone else's face.
So crappy that that was how this activist had to do it, so astonishing that she did it anyway.
And, Sparky, what the hell? I am so over this entire culture going on and on about the value of families and the importance of Mommies, as long as they're (a) exactly the right kind of mommies in the right familial configuration, and (b) not asserting or even asking for any rights that might inconvenience anyone else for even a moment.

Honestly? That's the biggest "con" of moving to CA. It even beats out the fact that the state is pretty much financially kaput.
Man, I'm barely rational about the whole issue today. The systematic validation of insane prejudice is really grinding me down, almost to 2004 post-Election Day levels.

The main thing that makes me feel better is, in the long run we'll win. The generation in their 50s and 60s is far more homophobic than the generation in their 20s. The side of prejudice is on the wrong side of history....

Yeah, another friend of mine pointed this out as well, but I'm not ready for cold comfort yet. Later today, tomorrow, next week, maybe.
