'Shells'
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Shir, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.
What is too short ZenKitty?
Uh, I'm not sure. It hasn't been really short since I was a little kid. I'm depending on the hairdresser to have a better idea of how short to go, and:
Do You have a hairdresser you trust?
Alas, no. I've had one good haircut since I moved here, at a Haircuttery of all places. I haven't found a good salon.
How much do you identify with you hair
A lot. More than I should, really; it's just hair, as my bald niece reminds me.
You could go in stages, but I'd go for it. the worse that happens, you hate your hair for awhile, and it sounds like that right now.
I think you're right. I hate it *now*, what the hell, right?
Fry's Electronics is an evil store. I went in wanting a video quad viewer. I walked out with a package of 4 wireless cameras with recievers AND quad viewer! It was only an extra $100!
Also, fry's doesn't carry a hard drive under 500 gig, or jump drive under 2GB. Hard drive, not a big deal. Jump drive. The mixer only reads 1 gb or smaller.
I can send you pics of some short curly styles if you like.
Oh, I was hoping you would! But I don't think I have enough volume on top to do either Gardner's or Russell's styles. I had something "messier" in mind, too, because styling is not something I do. Wash, condition, rub in some product that doesn't work anyway, and let it dry. That's my routine. I have sausage ringlets in the back, curly but less so over the rest of my scalp. I'm hoping if I just cut it all, like, 5 inches long, it'll sort itself out.
All hail the finding-things-that-have-been-long-lost ~ma of Scola, for his presence in my apartment hath revealed my Palm Pilot. And this is a very, very good thing.

That's kind of an in between length which will tend to create uh...horizontal volume. Though if you get a curl cutting specialist they could get it to settle down a bit (by cutting the curls to nestle against each other). On the other hand, five inches isn't supershort and allows for more styling options. On the other other hand, it will spring back more tightly once you take off the length.
Also at shorter lengths the product will be more efficacious for separating out the ringlets and allowing you an easy and quick coif.
So, shorter than 5 inches. The idea of having the curls sliced into so they'll nestle actually bothers me; I can't visualize how it works. My curls are the best thing about my hair; I don't want to fuck with them.
Here's the question: do I want it ~3 inches when it's wet and straight, or ~3 inches once it's dry and curly?
Zenkitty, this is my OThaircut: [link] but because my natural curls are way different from Charlize's (and/or her hot rollers) it comes out looking a lot different, and on those days when the curl is not working, on me it comes out as either a cute flip. You might find that the basic cut here is flatteringly right for you as well, and yet won't look a thing like mine.
Edited to finish a thought.
ETA2: I should note that I have success even with taking a print-out of this picture to the cheap haircut places around here. When I don't bring the pic, I get wildly varying results, generally unsatisfactory. (Although there is this genius of a girl who has been cutting some of the group home residents' hair, and making a brilliant job of it - so she may become my trusted hairstylist.
I like that cut, WindSparrow. I think it would look good on me, if it would do that. But my main problem right now is that the top layer of hair is damaged and tends to frizz and stick up wildly. So I'm hoping to get a short-on-top thing to get rid of the damage.
