'Objects In Space'

Spike's Bitches 44: It's about the rules having changed.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

So I was watching some Mamas and the Papas videos, and thinking about clothes, and how Michelle had much better clothes than Cass, because it seems like the only plus-size option in the sixties was muumuus. And then I started thinking about it some more, and while Michelle was definitely the "pretty" one, just watching the way they move in some of these videos, Cass seems to be playing up her sexuality more. And I was wondering how that was received then, whether Cass was thought of as sexy or if her dancing like that was seen as funny or what. I tried to think of more recent examples of fat women dancing in videos or movies, and most of the ones that I could think of were played for laughs. (And pretty much all of the others were Queen Latifa -- I have no idea what that means.) And then I found this: [link] And I have no idea what the audience was supposed to make of it. There are funny bits, yes, because it's the Smothers Brothers, but what about the rest? And if that wasn't meant to be funny, wasn't it awfully racy for 1968 TV?

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Birthday, Trudy! Let's talk cars and boys!

I had wanted a 3-series BMW for most of my life, and I finally bought a 335i earlier this year, so I'm driving one of the cars I really wanted. I have a thing for very fast sedans. There's something about a car that is an effective commuter that get to 60 MPH in less than 5 seconds and easily sprint up to 150 MPH. If I were getting it totally for fun I'd probably would have looked more closely at the convertible model of the 335i or the M3.

But that's a damn nice car and the transmission makes total sense for the conditions. In SOCal, I had an automatic and could have killed for it. It's not that I get to play with my car....

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Happy Birthday, Trudy!!!

Happy Birthday, Kara!!!

I am so boring when it comes to cars. I just want a reliable car, but I would prefer it to be red. I'd rather spend fantasy money on other things.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

I'd rather spend fantasy money on other things.

It's fantasy money - you don't have to prioritize. You can have all the books you want, all the shelves to put 'em on, and all the rooms to put the shelves in, and still have plenty of dosh left for the pony AND the red car.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Happy birthday, Trudes!

And holy crap! I actually got an e-mail from the president of the dealerships and he totally apologized on behalf of Oak Tree Mazda and said he'll be talking to both the general manager and the salesman personally and he intends to have my scratch fixed until I am 100% satisfied, as he would like to earn my business and keep it! Iiiinteresting. Things are looking up on that front.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Happy birthday, Trudy!

{{{Ginger and Bitches}}} back. I feel slightly calmer this morning, but my stomach is doing acrobatics when I think about it. I expect few more fights and clashes about this, and some more tears. I never knew how to hide my true feelings about anything, so I find it hard to be in the same room with my parents and pretend that everything is alright. They really think it's something I will be able to adjust to, and they're so, so wrong. While yes, this isn't a black-and-white situation, and there will be ways I'll be able to kick the system's ass, the day I'll "adjust" to this idea will be the day I won't be able to call myself leftist any longer.

Next week I have two interviews in human right agenda. One is for internship at the Ministry of Justice's human trafficking fight branch. The other is partial scholarship at a feminist Jewish-Arab organization, working in "bad" areas, helping to and torturing kids. And I feel now like a huge hypocrite, going to those interviews with the very real option that I might live in a sort of a place which make their interests so much harder.

Also. I have no idea what to say in such cases, but I know it's the 9/11 anniversary. Despite being from the Land of the Randomly Explosive Buses, I can't even imagine what you've been through that day, but I do know it sucks beyond belief. I know that unease when realizing the date-of-past-discomfortable-event, or when unease you "forgot" to feel the unease. Just take a deep breath. I don't know if it'll make it easier, but breathing is important, and might give yourself few seconds of rest before continue facing the world today. {{{Buffistas}}}
