But given where the strain is, it was probably the breathing exercises for the Senior Rock & Roll choir."

Never did get along well with quantitative methodologies. Sounds about right, though. I am opposed to positivism more on philsophical grounds than methodological ones (although those too). I can give you some links to a Disability Studies view on positivism, if you really want to be distracted from your actual task...
