My cat yowls and scratches at things (and threatens to knock things off my night table) until I get up in the morning -- even if there's food in her bowl. What is that about?
Spike's Bitches 44: It's about the rules having changed.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
He's bored.
and misery demands company ....
She only gets bored at 6 in the morning?
Hey, do we have a washingtonpost.com login?
One of our cats will yowl and/or tap us to wake us up if he's bored. He just wants petting and talking to and then he's cool. The other cat basically doesn't care to be entertained by us and would rather look at birds out the window if she's bored. However, if the foodbowl is empty then she has only one goal in life--making us fill it.
It's on top of the washer by the back door, and last night when J took the dogs for a walk, she sat there when he left, yowling at him. She was in the exact same spot when he got back and started complaining and bapping him with her paw as soon as he opened the door.

That's the weird thing, though -- she doesn't like to be petted. She basically just wants me to go out to the living room. Past that, she doesn't seem to care, just as long as I get out of bed and leave the room.
Our cat seems to like to eat best when we're in the kitchen. He'll sort of herd us in there and *then* eat. Weird.
He also likes to watch when Sara is in the bathtub. Also weird.
Cats = weird, I think.
Emily, do you regularly get up at 6? Cats are very much creatures of habit. So if yours is used to you getting up at 6, she may worry when you sleep in.
I had two cats who weren't interested in any food except dry catfood. Both of them liked to make really loud crunching noises, which I think was the appeal of the dry food.
Mr. Peabody likes Pedigree Little Champions ground dinner and whatever I'm eating, particularly if there are crackers, bread, cheese or chicken involved. He doesn't like any food with big chunks in it. He eats around most vegetables. I'm going to cook him some chicken before he comes home from the vet tomorrow. I'm a sucker.
My sister's old - now deceased - cat would wake her up early (5am or so) to feed her. Of course, she had my sister and mother trained to the point that she'd get her 5am pre-breakfast, her breakfast, a mid-morning snack, an afternoon nosh, and dinner. Somehow, she lived to be about 16 ... and could still walk (as opposed to rolling).
