This is going to be an xpost (Natter and BS) because I honestly have no idea where this show belongs. I'd probably say it "transcends genre" if that phrase didn't make me grind my teeth - there's one blink-and-you'll-miss it brush with magical realism, but the bulk of the show is politics and family drama. On the other hand, it takes place in the fictional Kingdom of Gilboa, soooo....yeah. The show it most reminds me of is Rome.
Kings premieres on NBC in two weeks, and the promos have been at best confusing and at worst off-putting. But the show itself is AWESOME. I wish it were on cable where it would survive, because I have a feeling nobody will watch it due to NBC's total fucking up of the marketing effort and it will get canceled just as its getting interesting.
The worldbuilding in this show is astonishingly strong. The writing is solid, the characters well-drawn, and the acting is good across the board. And there's really nothing else like it on TV right now.
So far I've only seen the pilot - I have the next 2 eps as well, and if the show goes completely off the rails I'll take back everything I just posted. But I really hope it doesn't, because I want to know where this story goes.
The evil chicken is one of fandom_wank's favorite things.
Heh. The evil chicken isn't a joke? That's EVEN BETTER.
Jess, I've been planning on watching it solely for McShane.
Totally serious! Apparently there's also a line where the heroine "tried to think as the chicken bawk-bawk-bawked."

It's actually too hot this way. bon bon, how did the bar exam go?
Eh. I whiffed on Thursday morning's essays, which is approximately 20% of the exam. It was exacerbated by the stomach cramps that ended up being a kidney and bladder infection. I am not confident that I passed. Which is not to say that I didn't pass -- I am hoping I scored well enough on the rest to make up for it, which will be difficult but not impossible. But that is one unfairly tough fucking exam.
so tonight I discovered mac had lied about what homework he had done. When will I learn to check it all on Friday? So while throwing a fit about my discovery, I went about doing chores. When I took the kitchen trash out, he locked me out of the house. He has lost his DS for a week and the fight then went on for another hour including, hits, kicks, and spitting in the face. He eventually calmed and got it together (himself, not the homework) and was asleep by 10 - small miracle.
shower and bed for me.
Oy, msbelle. He has a hard time with getting caught out.
Liese, dad is up in the mountains Tuesdays to the east, unfortunately.
Oh, msbelle. Poor you and mac.
Runaround day again today. I'm starting Sir Gawain and the Green Knight on Tuesday, I think. But I'm also doing my march madness poetry thing.
