I don't care if it is an orgy of death, there's still such a thing as a napkin.

hip deep in pie

From Googling, it seems not unheard of. I guess there's oil in the transmission and if the gasket breaks, it can leak. From the little I've found, it sounds like the washing machine is probably toast. I'd say it's 11+ years old, because it's a store brand from a major Canadian Dept. store that shut down in 1997.

I'm going to call a repair guy tomorrow and see what's the what. And I'm looking at washing machines online. Anyone have opinions on Front Loaders? I hear they can smell.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Actually, I was going to ask if anyone had experience with the 2-in-1 type - where you wash and dry in the same unit. My friend has one and has had some trouble with it, but her plumbing is totally frelled in general so I don't know if that's typical.

I could really use the space, and anyway, I fucking hate my high-efficiency models. The dryer will run for three hours and things are still damp. The quick cycle on the wash is 33 minutes which in practice is often nearly an hour. Hate. Hate. Hate.

Front-loaders - and yes, if you leave things in for any length of time it starts smelling, I assume because of the seal.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Huh -- I'm watching the local political news, and someone just threw out a former Big Boss's name as a potential candidate for Manhattan DA. (The current guy -- Adam Schiff -- not really -- is retiring after 30 years.)

brenda, a friend lived in a place with a 2-in-1 and that thing took freaking FOREVER.

I can't imagine it's much worse. What I think I really need is to find a regular old low-efficiency set. It's not like I do so much laundry that the power or water usage is really an issue.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

We looked into them a few years ago, but they generally didn't have good reviews.

How do we feel about these boots?

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

I like them, Dana

Brenda, the all-in-one washer/dryer are popular on boats. From everyone I know that has one, they are not on. They take for.ever (in excess of 3 hours) to do one load and often they don't get the clothes dry. On boats they have a tendancy to overflow too which is extra bad. My one friend hates hers so much she uses the laundromat or she borrows ours - thankfully we have a full size washer and dryer on the boat and since we don't live aboard any more it's easier for her to schlep her laundry down the dock!

Dana, I like those boots

See, but this is my situation now. And with half the space. They're expensive enough that I won't jump from this pan into that fire, but damn.
