You know, my big sister could really beat the crap out of her. I mean, really really.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I tried it on a different machine, and I think I got real results, aka I can't hear it until 14 or 15.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I felt a little wince of discomfort around 17kHz, but didn't actually start hearing identifiable sound until the guy announced 16k.

blearg - throat is sore like a sore thing, but I am keeping food down, so that is good. I started on the antibiotics, so I shouldn't be contagious by tomorrow. YAY. also? going a bit stir crazy.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

There's some stupid work drinks thing tonight that I stupidly said I would go to, but then I totally forgot, and I was just sitting here daydreaming about going home soon, when my boss came in and mentioned the stupid drinks thing, which she's not going to. Luckily, we're friends, so I suggested we pretend she never said anything, and if no one else says anything, I will continue to have "forgotten" about it. Cripes, the last thing I want to do is have stupid drinks with stupid work people I'm not even friends with. (The people I am friends with are already not going.)

hivemind - I clearly am feeling better and the fever is gone and I am supposedly not contagious after 10am tomorrow - otoh, I have sat in a chair most of the day and am still tired - go to work tomorrow or give it another day?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

This is why my lenten vow of not gossiping at work is going to be so hard to keep.

The Anti-Nuke Beauty Contest

Miss Atom, the beauty contest for the Russian nuclear industry, has earned a fair amount of press, in part because of the now-infamous photo of a post-Soviet hottie posing in front of some cooling towers. But the anti-nuke crowd has its own contest: The Environmentals.

The rules? "Use real nuclear power plants as backdrop for fashion or glamor shots! No lab montage or Photoshop!" Clothing, as this shot from the decommissioned Trojan nuclear power plant in Oregon demonstrates, is optional. (Some of the originals, obviously, are NSFW.)

Thus far, the contest has received only seven entries; Miss Atom, on the other hand, has dozens of contestants. Voting is still ongoing at Miss Atom, by the way. Yulia Nechayeva of Polyarnye Zori is in the lead with 1,149 points; DANGER ROOM favorite Alyona Kirsanova is in fourth place.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Do the Miss Atom contestants get extra points if they glow in the dark?
