Sorry, Captain. I'm real sorry. I shoulda kept better care of her. Usually she lets me know when something's wrong. Maybe she did, I just wasn't paying attention...

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Choose the neighborhood as well as the house. You want the worst house in the best neighborhood, since you can fix the house but not the area.

Yeah, I'm pretty much sticking to particular neighborhoods I mostly know.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Also, that one that's been on the market a while looked pretty small, so possibly perfect for you, but not for a lot of folks. So that's something to your advantage, possibly.

OK, I don't know if this is because it's Fox, or because it's NYC, but the breaking news at the top of the local news is a picture of Rhianna. Seriously?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I need a martini.

Emmett made her a martini. With three olives.

Now we're watching Matilda's video choice "the bear" (aka, The Jungle Book) and everybody is fed.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

sarameg, I felt overwhelmed and then I got a buyer-broker, who got a fixed fee (as opposed to working on a commission) and could act as coach and midwife through the whole process. Of course, I did end up buying the first place I visited, but at least I had an independent experienced opinion about that.

A lot of the rowhouses are small. Some, really small. Really, I'm looking at maybe 3/4 more than what I have plus unscary basement (my aversion to them means I'll store stuff/people there, but NSM living space for me.)

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I got the notice today that the university approved funding for me to go present a paper at a conference in Kentucky, and I just booked the flight. Will book hotel tomorrow. Eek. (And actually, I'm not sure I've got funding for everything -- I can get up to $500, but flight is $250 and hotel will be about $150, which leaves $100 for meals, which will be cutting it close, but at least I won't be paying much out of pocket.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I need a martini.

Emmett made her a martini. With three olives.

In olden times, people had kids to help them on the farm.

Now, they get a built-in wee Nick Charles. (Not that Emmett is wee anymore.)

Now tagless for your comfort.

Emmett made her a martini. With three olives.

Awesome. He needs to teach my kids to make an Old Fashioned.

My kids are asleep, laundry's done and I need to pack!
