OK, this is creepy -- I just got two emails in a row about the same job opening (forwarded from the headhunter by two different people). I guess I should actually look at it, huh?

Also, a big Word on entitlement issues. Research has shown that people who try harder actually do better in school (overall - I think they're including college too) than people who are just "smart" but don't practice. But try telling them that!

At Vanderbilt, there is an emphasis on what Dean Hogge calls “the locus of control.” The goal is to put the academic burden on the student.
Ay. Such a good point. We need to do it in high school too, but we're also trying to balance showing them how to be successful, as well as being prepared for the question "what have you done to help him/her succeed?" I think I, at least, end up erring too much on the side of, er, teacher-locus. If you will.

Damnit, why do I always end up with at least 2 stupid errors of the spellcheck-proof variety in every official report?? I proof and I proof and I get all the grammar right...and somehow I miss an unneeded plural and a leftover -ly. Makes me crazy.
Today is on notice. Next person who dumps something in my lap that I know nothing about is going to get cut.
Also, protest outside my work because of that damn Post cartoon - and people in my dept. joking about it. Their death would not bother me, racist bastards.
