Ah. That's what I get for being an isolationist UnUnAmerican.
Welcome, Megmac!
A recent study by researchers at the University of California, Irvine, found that a third of students surveyed said that they expected B’s just for attending lectures, and 40 percent said they deserved a B for completing the required reading. >[link]I could have told them this.
TWO of my Facebook friends (who do not know each other), both of whom have 3 year olds, posted today that their children like to sing Beyonce's Single Ladies. TWO! On the same day!
I think Sam (male) is probably funnier singing it than Audrey.
I could have told them this.
Seriously.
I find it intriguing that the researcher doesn't identify entitlement as the actual problem, which is what I found with my about half my students (probably stemming from the "everyone gets a trophy" syndrome). The other half had the "I worked hard" sentiment identified later in that article.
Professor Greenberger said that the sense of entitlement could be related to increased parental pressure, competition among peers and family members and a heightened sense of achievement anxiety.
I can see how these factors could produce the desire for a good grade, but not the sense that one was entitled to it, which is clearly present.

My internet is on the fritz. This is frustrating. I have b.org coding to do. I hate losing momentum.

Huh.
Cool.

I did not get done what I needed to or wanted to today. My WRONG reaction is a desire to stay late or take work home, neither of which is actually possible.
