Lorne: Take care of yourself and ah, make sure fluffy is getting enough love. Gunn: Did he have anything? Fred: No. And who's fluffy? Are you fluffy? Gunn: He called me fluffy? Fred: He said make sure…wait. You don't think he was referring to anything of mine that's fluffy, do you? Because that would just be inappropriate.

I am a social networking SNOB.

I've found the "less about" option to be very useful for those situations. When they appear in your newsfeed, click on the "options" button to the right of their post/status update/whatever, and select "less about" and you'll rarely ever see them again. I use it for the right-wingers in my family.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

But a lot of them have JUST DISCOVERED social networking and I feel like I'm drowning in newbies who say weirdly inappropriate things and I just want them to catch up for a few years when the LOL! LOL! has been beaten out of them.

If you hover your mouse on the right side of their latest inanedate you can instruct Facebook to "tell me less about this person".

This doesn't stop them posting on your wall, though.

Too true. Defriending might be the only option for those types.

I'm pretty sure you can block certain people from posting on your wall. Of course, facebook is blocked at work, so I can't check. But yeah, defriending might be the best choice in this situation.

Two good things happened for me last night! First, I went to a presentation at the office of the library district that was about getting your Library Science masters. They had recruiters there from both of the state’s schools that offer the program (UofI and Dominican), as well as faculty and alum to tell their stories and take questions.

The best thing I learned was that Dominican, which I had always had in my head as being a lot more expensive the UofI since it’s a private school, is actually only about $3K more for the entire cost of the degree! Here I was, all bummed that UofI wouldn’t take me for the online program two years ago and deciding that was it for me trying for my degree, and I find out I can also apply to a more local school and go there in the evenings and weekends.

Dominican’s rep was actually the director of the program, and she was really nice--I chatted with her afterwards and was trying to come up with the question I wanted to ask her but couldn’t remember it. She gave me her card and told me to call her at her office when I thought of it. The advantages of a small school. Oh, and I also did a bit of a “this is my background--look how good I’d be for your school!” sales pitch for a possible application. I’m hoping she’ll remember me when I’m ready to apply (most likely for next year, maybe next January).

And then I came home and was chatting with my mom on the phone, and the heat kicked in for the first time since I had the maintenance guy in on Monday to fix the loud fan noise that’s been there since I moved in nearly three years ago. I can barely hear it now--yay!! Used to be I could here it go off in the living from my bedroom, and now I can barely hear it from the couch, ten feet away.

If you are going to goddamn telecommute, either read your goddamned email or answer the goddamned phone. I just got out of a very unpleasant meeting, one where I'm one of the few who doesn't meekly defer and thus am a lightening rod, and I need something done right the fuck now.
