This weekend is Tax weekend for me. I would like to e-file my Federal, but I've never done it before so I'm hoping for help from the hivemind. It looks like I can pick up a copy of H&R TaxCut for $20 that will let me e-file. Does anyone know if it works well? Since I've never e-filed, what does one do with supporting documentation, like a W-2 or a receipt for deductible donations?

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I have uncomplicated taxes, Gud, but Turbo Tax just sort of sucked my W-2 from my employer after I put in the EIN.

My taxes have the potential to be really simple this year. I have very few capital gains and I suspect the standard deduction may be greater than itemizing. It was getting awfully close last year.

information libertarian

I've used TurboTax online to e-file for about 5 years, though I've never itemized deductions. You fill out the W-2 information online; since the data is reported to the government anyway I think they don't need the actual print form turned in. I am not sure about charitable receipts.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Obviously, I'm not well informed on any of this because I was lucky enough to conceive without any problems at 40.

Sighh... Say that to me again and again, ok?

I hope to get to NY sometime in the summer, once my bills are mostly paid off and I can shop for fabric, and I would love to go to the museum.

You are welcome to stay with me. The new aparment has ample room for guests.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNE!!!!!!!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I don't know why e-filing makes me skittish, but I always use TaxCut online and then print out the forms and mail everything in.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I have a pretty complicated return, but I've efiled without trouble. They don't even ask for the supporting documentation, which made me feel kind of naked. I suppose the theory is that if they spot something suspicious, they'll make you cough the paperwork up at that point.

It doesn't take too long to itemize, maybe my plan will be to itemize and see if comes up to more than the standard deduction and e-file if I don't need to itemize.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I've e-filed since the first minute it became available to normal people who aren't tax preparers. You just put all the paperwork in a file in case they come and get you. (I suspect that this is also what they do if you actually send it to them.)

I just can't imagine 8 babies.

Apparently her 6 other children are all under the age of 7, too. There's something seriously messed up with this woman.
