This money, it is too much. You should have some small refund.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I wish you could group people on facebook into family, friends, etc and only let certain friends see certain things. Mom doesn't want me to post my shower photos there because she doesn't want to get in trouble with a part of the extended family that did not get invited. They weren't invited because the list was just too damn long.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Skipping and skimming and asking for help (x-posted with Bitches):

IthisisafreakyuniworldN: seems like my TA is more excited about a paper I'm working on than me. He's actually suggesting me bibliography and almost pushing my gently forward, even though I still have a whole freaking semester to take care of that and test season is just about to happen. Seriously, I want to write it too, but this is a little bit scary, and I'm not very good with not living up to expectations of intellectual awesomeness people have about me. I aim to please.

Which brings me to my next question: again, long shot, but I'm keeping my faith in the 6-degrees-of-interwebs: do we know one, James Elwick? The man seems to have an unpublished paper which seems very relevant to paper I'm conspiring, and I'm trying to get access to. So, that would be great help.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I'm skipping the whole "25 things" meme because there are too many work people on my FB contacts list for my comfort. Maybe I'll transfer it to a locked LJ entry instead. (But probably not. I'm really far too lazy for memes like that.)

That would make things so much easier. But I suppose it would defeat the whole purpose of social networking. If my groups are free standing...which I would SO much prefer...then they aren't really networked.

Jesse is me in this. Plus, I just delete petitions and causes because I don't feel comfortable exposing my list in that way. Which I suppose is ridiculous given how not hidden anything is anyway.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Jesse is me in this.

Heh -- that was Jessica, but I already posted on FB that I'm not doing the 25 Things!

We just had a non-fire emergency drill. Good times. We sure do a lot of drilling here, which I guess is a good thing. The only other job I've had with actual regular emergency drills was the one with kids in the building.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

OK, remember how I was complaining a while ago about how PETA's campaigns are mostly "These hot naked women want you to be vegetarian!"? Yeah. They're at it again. Ad rejected for broadcast during the Super Bowl. Likely NSFW. [link]

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

You can. I've got a couple of different friends groups and some can see everything and some can see limited info. If you go to the friends tab, you can create however many groups named whatever. Then go to the settings link and in privacy settings, you can take a number of actions. Click on any of the settings and you'll get another list. Most of the dialogue boxes will come up as "only friends". Find the "customize" option and click on that. Another box opens and you put in the friends groups you don't want to be able to access those things.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Well, that was a waste of lipstick. The interview was a cattle call for commission-only insurance sales. Insurance companies seem to be thriving--every day or so I get an email about buying a franchise. But this time I actually put on makeup and nice clothes. They want me back for an orientation presentation next week, and THEN they decide if they're really going to consider me.

If I hadn't wanted to get out of there so badly I'd have asked what about my 20 years of technical experience made them call me (and lie--she said it wasn't sales) about the position.
