Today has the feel of a very Mondayish day. I know of at least three projects I may have to do, but I suspect all three of them are going to turn into oh never minds, after I spend several hours waiting to hear about them.
I am having such a Monday. First the pilot light was out on the hot water heater, then I forgot my security badge, which is a giant pain in the ass, then the coffee shop was out of the kind I like and I didn't have time to wait for them to brew more, then I got called out on a stat in a recently submitted proposal (which fortunately I was able to source to the guy who is the expert in that stuff, but still). What next?
Our neighbors are getting a new roof on their garage--which is closest to our bedroom windows. The nail guns started at 7 a.m. Which is great because it means I was awake when my sister called at 8.
Oh yeah, that. They tore down the house two doors away last fall and are now building a new building that has pretty much trashed sitting on the deck any day except Sunday, and when complete, will likely fuck with the view.
then the coffee shop was out of the kind I like
the comapny is cutting back on the coffee they are supplying to us. Hazelnut, my favorite, is going to be gone. I am stashing packets in my desk. I don't even drink their coffee everyday, but I am going to be very unhappy that their is free cofee available, but none I want.
I am having such a Monday.
I spilled my large DD iced coffee on the feet of two other customers. Thank god it was iced and not hot and they were totally nice about it and I was still in the store so I could get a new one right away but still...NOT a great way to start a Friday.
Now I have to call someone for a work related issue. I don't have phone fear at all usually but I NEVER have to make work-related calls and I'm really nervous about it!
Today has the feel of a very Mondayish day.
Fucking Tino is at it again!
I finally got my oil changed on the way into work this morning, after having it on my to-do list for weeks. Jiffy Lube was packed at 9:15!! They have a $10-off-before-10:00-am deal going on, which is why I was there (and the others, too, I'm sure). Although they didn't bother scrubbing off the sticky substance that's in the middle of my front windscreen; guess that'll be my job tonight.
I'm also trying to top off my Virgin mobile phone, and they're being jerks and not connecting to the server from my phone. Guess I'll have to do that online instead.
This weekend, I am getting my apartment clean tonight and tomorrow morning, dropping off stuff at Goodwill by noon tomorrow, then heading down to see ChiKat's play (yay, pirates!!) and joining her for dinner afterwards. Then I'm coming home, packing, and going to bed by 9:00 so I can be on the road by 5:00 in the morning Sunday to drive to New Jersey, hopefully in one day (about a 12-13 hour drive).
If I have time on Saturday, I'm going to see if I can get my new glasses at LensCrafters, but I don't know if they'll finish them within a few hours like they used to. If I have to wait, I'll just hold off and get them in NJ. I will pick up some flip-up sunglasses to put over my prescription ones so I won't be squinting on the drive out.
So: re: xkcd: who is the guy in the hat supposed to be?
Sounds like Miracleman to me.
No, just your basic embodiment of evil.
Definitely MM, thn.

eh, you'd probably be better off just investing in some hazelnut syrup and adding a slug to your regular coffee.

I always hesitate to participate in the Challenger discussions because it's deeply personal to me. I did see it happen, on television at my school. But my cousin's family were there, watching it live. Because my family knows Ellison Onizuka, who is from Kaelakekua. My mom went to school at Konawaena with his sister.
I was in instant denial. It must have been another shuttle launch, one that my cousin was not at. There must have been two scheduled that day, and this must have been the one that did not have the first Asian American in space on board.
But of course it wasn't, and the subsequent grade school joking to deal with trauma was deeply upsetting to me. Still is upsetting. Ellison was a really great human being, one who made a real difference in his community.
Once he dug a pit in his commander's backyard so he could make kalua pig for everybody, cooked the proper way, over coals underground.
Anyway, it's part of our American history, something we all remember. My uncle's photos are amazing, too. He just kept shooting; you can see it all unfold.
It's who we were and we were there.
electrical speedo
Worst. Swimwear. Ever.
No, that would be the Speedo made of poison ivy. Or else the combination Speedo/candiru house.
