So I gave myself really short nails for the trip (shut up) and typing is so weird now. As is everything else. They are the length of a fingertip.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I'm due for a cut, and know that once I do, the ends of my fingers are gonna be very sensitive to touch.

I'd like to keep mine short for work, but I'm lazy and wait for them to get about 1/4" long, which is when they start to break and wear down from not using gloves.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

So, when I go get my hair cut tomorrow, should I chop off all but about a half inch (the not currently dyed part), or would that be too extreme?

A half inch is pretty short. It won't show scalp but it won't lie down either.

Maybe a temporary rinse until you can get it to one inch?

OTOH, if you do decide to get it cut, come up to the city and I'll make sure you feel like the prettiest.

To compare: this guy's haircut is half an inch long.

eta: Jamie Lee's pixie is about an inch long on the sides and an inch and a half to two inches on top.

This cut, which is about an inch on top and 3/4 on the sides is about as short as you should go.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

I went out for dinner tonight and had a dessert that I had to share with the Buffistas: chocolate waffles with maple bacon ice cream and candied bacon. Dear me. It was so freakin' good. Chocolaty and sweet and salty and smoky and warm and cold and so so good.

I do my own faux nails because the real ones are shit. It's kinda a pain for trips like this (most of my fakes were shed some point in Mozambique and it wasn't fun because the natural beds are way too sensitive and shreddy. Always been, it's amazing I didn't start doing fakes when I was a baby. I've tried every nail strengthener known to man. I have paper for nails. Godbless broadway products. )

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Im becoming more and more nail impulsive. If I don't have the proper clippers around *which* is rare these days, I tear them to the approximately appropriate lenght and then file for smoothness. Must have smoothness. Have nail files all over the place. But I like them best when you point down on a piece of paper the slesh and the nail are the same length, nails shorter than firgertips when extended

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I tried clipping my nails short like that when I was learning to play guitar, and again when I was trying to climb rocks, but it never stopped feeling weird. Now they are all different lengths and shapes because I ran out of emory boards and keep forgetting to get more, but at least the tips of my fingers aren't all exposed and vulnerable.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Yay for ventless Grace! I hope her fever abates.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

A half inch is pretty short. It won't show scalp but it won't lie down either.

Yeah, half an inch was probably understating it--it's closer to an inch in most places. I was wondering about giving it another week or two, but I'll ask the hairdresser what she thinks.

Thanks for the links!

I forgot to do the dance of joy for Grace getting off her vent! That's wonderful, wonderful news.
