It's a real burden being right so often.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

How is Dita von Hees adjusting?

Pretty well! Perkins the cat has finally figured out the whole playing vs hissing thing, and we are making headway in the "human is not a chewtoy" lessons

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Dinner triumph tonight!

I knew I was making JZ a salad, but needed to give her something else more filling as well. And I knew I was going to use the excellent loaf of bread I'd gotten at the bakery - an Italian pugilese style loaf with feta and green onions in it.

So: I cut thick slabs of the bread and toasted it under the broiler. I sauteed mushrooms in lots of butter, then chopped up a green onion very fine and tossed that in. Served the sauteed mushrooms over the toasted feta/onion bread, and grated some fresh parmesan on top.

Salad: butter lettuce and red lettuce, more green onions, cucumber (chunks not slices), strawberries (insalata pazza style. You need onion in your salad if you want to include strawberries). Tossed with Newman's balsamic vinaigrette, and then some fresh feta on top.

But when people came over who were afraid of her, she would SIT ON THEIR LAPS immediately.

My cat Clio is like that with allergic people. They`re her FAVOURITE people ever!

When I lived in Prague with a hotplate, a favorite meal was toasting a sliced up rholiki (like mini-baugettes) in butter and garlic in the pan, then sauteeing mushrooms, spinach and garlic (and whatever fresh veggies I could find) in more butter and then tossing in swiss and/or parm at the last minute and dumping it over the toast.

Pretty damned good. JZ had fancier.

I get that a lot. I don't think cats are evil, though. They just like the person who is still and not moving hands towards them.

Same thing, basically. Not much fancier except the bread.

In college, my friends Chip and Lori and I would reserve the kitchen and make a huge batch of sauteed mushrooms which we'd eat with baguette and salad and wine. We were mushrooms sluts.

Mushrooms were the one veg I could find without problem in Prague. It had issues with non-white vegs in groceries in the mid-90s. I got the most anemic broccoli and zuchs during that 6 mo. Hell, I had to get the zuchs at the french grocery and you practically needed a password. There was a veggie-friendly sandwich place near Staromeska (I'm butchering that) that I figured had to kill for its vegs during that decade. We were desperate for fresh veg.

One of the pizza places here has a pizza that is sauteed mushrooms, roasted garlic and just enough cheese to call it pizza. It is the yum.

It's kind of meaty over there. We need bon to chime in with her Prague meals.

Yum! Same idea, basically with hot bread and mushrooms. Close to a white pie.

I think bon was after me and got the better of openess.
