You know what's good? Ready-to-heat microwavable bacon. After a few tries, I found one that actually tastes like cooked-from-scratch bacon. (Oscar Mayer.)
eta: Gud, that wasn't in reply to you! I'm not telling you what to feed your kids. I think you're a great dad, never mind the Pop-Tarts.
I'm thinking about making pancakes for lunch now.
Em won't eat Pop Tarts. Only waffles. Of course, she switches up every once in awhile so as soon as I have a freezer full of waffles, she'll only want cereal.
Plus, I want the waffles for me so I can spread some peanut butter on them and run out the door in the morning.
Oh fuck - 3 people shot at the Holocaust Museum:

wtf is wrong with people?
Damn. They're now saying it's two people seriously wounded - the gunman, and the security guard he shot. When he fired, the other security guards returned fire.
Crazy people. The world is a scary place to walk around in, lately.
People shouldn't be shot in museums. Libraries, maybe, and then only when the librarians are doing the shooting.
In half an hour I will be eating delicious barbecue.
But in the meantime, I'm sure you want an update on the baseball draft. Not the insider stuff, but just the coolest names that have rolled up. I offer you:
D’Vontrey Richardson
Tyson Van Winkle
Seth Schwindenhammer
...and the winner and new coolest name in baseball champ...
Damien Magnifico!
(seriously)
eta: a late addition and contender for the top spot...
Sequoyah Stonecipher
According to comments from Jessica's link (warning: avoid if more-heat-than-light arguments on anti-Semitism or gun control raise your blood pressure), the suspected shooter is an 89-year-old man with links to right-wing racism generally and anti-Semitism more specifically.
I spent a late lunch hour at the other end of the National Mall (near the National Gallery of Art, for those who know the area) and didn't know anything had happened until I saw Jessica's post.
Egad. That is both scary and angry-making.
wtf is wrong with people?
Seriously.
Aimee, I usually make my pancakes and waffles with at least 50% white whole wheat flour. It's whole wheat, just a softer, more tender grain, so you get the flavor and health benefits of whole wheat with the texture of regular white flour. Another option is to use whole wheat pastry flour. Any recipe that has you separate the eggs should be good.
