I brought my famed picture of my gramps (who died, at 90, a couple of years ago) and placed it on the end of the bed, towards the television. I knew he'd want to experience this with me.

I'm officially proud to be an American again. I was unofficially until Obama took office. I still won't quite relax until they are safely ensconced in the White House.
And, Michelle Obama? GORGEOUS.
WORD.
"red man can get ahead man". I dunno - it kinda felt a bit like the kind of friendly interracial ribbing that I grew up with in Hawaii. Who knows.
Cool - Obama's head speechwriter (the not-movie-guy Jon Favreau) is only 26!
There was a snapshot of him at a party circulating the internet a few months ago, with him grabbing the breast of a cardboard cutout of Hillary Clinton.
I kinda got that it was intended that way. It's just that kind of language was used in incendiary ways elsewhen, so it's tough to balance out.
I know what you're saying though, the whole races vibe is so different in Hawaii.
Just chiming in way late to say that even though I personally am all about the Jesus, ITA with java. Warren just made me grind my teeth on behalf of java and tommy and beth b and her very DH and ND and Daisy Jane and, well, all the firm and passionate unbelievers I know who are such excellent humans that I feel privileged to know them.
Thank you, JZ, that's very sweet. And it's people like you who influence me to be open to faiths. I'm thankful that men like Jesus and women like you have walked the Earth.
I liked that guy, but I don't think the "red men" I know would really appreciate being described that way. I guess I shouldn't speak for them, but I certainly wouldn't be describing them that way.
Did those of you watching MSNBC catch the brief glimpse of the older black man (wearing a cap) who was saluting the President during his speech? I was only teary-eyed until then, but that's when I lost it. So much captured, right there.
And there they go! Bye!
