You never know if a girl's gonna say 'yes', or if she's gonna laugh in your face and pull out your still-beating heart and crush it into the ground with her heel.

I was disappointed that they picked Mambo rather than America for the song to perform from West Side Story. I was really interested to hear how that one sounded in Spanish.

Yes, this. I wanted more than that teaser from "Tonight" in the opening number.

My big surprise from watching the Tonys was seeing Jessica Hynes nominated for The Norman Conquests. Daisy! On Broadway!! (/Spaced geekout) Also, it was nice seeing Janet McTeer again.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

The downfall of Broadway, aka "Rock of Ages," a new musical based around eighties metal songs, was nominated,

WHAT. Please, please tell me you are joking, and that such a show doesn't really exist. Please.

Signed, I'm just waiting to eventually see the Addams Family Musical.

Sorry. Can't. I saw the commercials when I was visiting my parents, since they get the NYC TV stations. Songs from Journey, Poison, Kansas, and a bunch of others, all put together into something with some semblence of a plot. It's horrifying.

I spent most of the Tonys watching the musical numbers and thinking, "Revival. Revival. Based on a movie. Revival. Based on 20-year-old metal music. Revival. Ooh, new musical [Next to Normal]!! Based on a movie. Revival..."

Yeah, I don't get to see too many Broadway shows now, maybe two a year. My basic rules for picking which ones to see (if it's my choice -- sometimes, someone else in the family chooses) is that, if there's anything Sondheim playing, that's first, and I will not see shows which are based on pop music. So no Jersey Boys, Moving Out, Nine to Five, Rock of Ages, or Mamma Mia. I loved the movie of Mamma Mia, but if I've only got limited Broadway musical time, I want to see something that was written for Broadway.

Oddly enough, one of my favorite shows of the past few years was The Drowsy Chaperone, which I only saw because I was sent to TKTS with cash and instructions to get tickets for something that wasn't depressing, and all the other options that day were either potentially depressing or were revivals of things I'd seen a million times.

Always Anti-fascist!

Thanks to Joel McHale, whom I love, you wouldn't believe all the rude Rock of Love comments cycling through my head right now, AIFG.

This is interesting--the CBC looks at a new thing called "the internet" in 1993.
