Natter 63: Life after PuppyCam
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
My friend Debra swears there's a Detect Money chip that goes off in her car every time she gets an extra payment from somewhere.
I swear my life has one of those. Every time I feel like I am actually starting to save money, something expensive happens. I also have a few repairs to do around the house that will be in the $1500-2000 range. OTOH, I don't usually carry a lot of debt (other than my mortgage), so I should probably count myself lucky.
I like the symphony/philharmonic more than the ballet or opera. Maybe I would like opera more now, but I have given it many tries over the years -- it just seems like something I'd like! And yet, not really my thing. I just like lieder.
I was shocked to discover how much I like ballet. I can take or leave symphony/philharmonic and opera bugs.
I am grumpy, I waited too long to go get lunch. I need to go NOW.
Good luck w/the move, Jen! Are you excited about the new place?
I am! I'm moving in to a friend's place - she has roomies off and on, and she offered, so I accepted. I will have more amenities with her than I would otherwise, so I'm all for it. Plus, she has a cat which doesn't seem to bother my allergies, so it's like a free pet with purchase... that I don't have to be responsible for monetarily.
I'm seeing a friend sing tonight, and I plan to spend the rest of the weekend watching TV, reading slashy fantasy novels, and eating my way through the fresh fruit and vegetables in my refrigerator.
Symphony/philharmonic in a heartbeat.
I like opera music, but strictly in instrumental score form. (How's that for contrary?)
I'm having leftover Chinese food for lunch. NOM.
I would love opera season tickets, but not to the local opera. They'll do one grand opera a season, then call the "Greatest Hits of Puccini" or "The Genius of Gilbert & Sullivan" performances opera. There's not a big market for more than one true full-length grand opera a season around here. So they fill it out with classical singing of whatever sort. And art songs make me want to strangle things.

I agree, concert music is my first preference. Ballet comes next, but only classical ballet with concert music and a full story. I love certain operas and trying to appreciate it more.
Gilbert & Sullivan trumps all.
ETA: The year I had season tickets to the symphony, and my sister had gotten season tickets to the opera, and I was dating someone with season tickets to the ballet? Heaven.
I am trying to make up Chore Plans for the weekend. Not so fun, really, but need must. On the fun end, my plan is to take the kids to the pool, buy them ice creams, and take them to Cali n Tito's for dinner, which is a really fun beachy-style Mexican place, nice in the summer since few drunken students (it's BYOB).
