Yes. Lucky for you, people may be in danger.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Is it bad I have the urge to deny them cake in the morning and tell them that the cake is a lie?

Just remember, it's less than a month to Father's Day now. But let your conscience be your guide....

I read both of those courtesy of the library book sales. I can still recall the smell. Who was the diamond snood? That had to be Belden.

I remember a pacific island Cherry Ames clearly. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of racism in it, were I to reread it now. But it did give me an impression of how brutal the pacific campaign was. And that was kid lit. OH, that reminds me, I read a Nevil Shute some time back (Requiem for a Sparrow?) and it was a plot revolving around what we now call PTSD. But it was never given a name. It was heartbreaking.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Is this still related to the burger discussion?

Well, the French swear by them.

Part of my brain thinks they're too athletic to make good meat, but I adore goat, so that's hypocritical.

I wonder if they've EVER sold any.

When my SIL went into labor with their eldest, we found ourselves on base in the Ft. Hood hospital in the wee hours. Caf was long since closed. There are these machines that vend and microwave/heat your selection and then deliver it to you. I think we ate grilled ham and cheese, fried chicken sandwiches and nuggets. There was even fish fillets, but that scared us.

It was 1 am and if we left base, we couldn't get back on. They weren't too bad.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Her brother drove a jalopy! (Hee -- jalopy. I still only think of that one car, because it was where I learned the word.)

This is me!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I still have to remind myself it's not JAL-uppy.

Not that Ned got maimed in The Star Sapphire (now that *was* a racist book), but Nancy sure worried he had.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

No lumps, ita, but it was the back of his head. I don't know if that makes a difference.

It's much more dangerous to be whacked in the back of the head. That's where the autonomic functions (breathing etc.) are controlled.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

old kid lit and YA lit is so sketchy with the racism. I have old copies of Arabian Knights and then some Kipling. Since I am reading some of the classic stuff to mac, I do on the fly translations so he can understand the story, but also to take out all the bad guy = negro or African stuff. I'm getting rid of the books as I finish them.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Isn't milk-soaked bread the secret to good meatloaf and meatballs? Although like Jesse I tend to think a good burger is nothing but meat, salt, and heat.

With my mom's it's chopped onions and Heinz 57. I don't know if she actually uses any bread in it or not.
