Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I have skipped and skimmed after being away from the net for the last four days. Just back from Chicago ( got up at 3am to make my morning flight, should be crashing HARD this afternoon). The services and various and sundry gatherings for my uncle were great. Since he was a judge and a former Alderman and stuff, there were over 500 people at the visitation. It was quite formal, but then there was a family-only gathering at a cool pizza place (I think it was called the Union) which was a time to relax. The next morning a big church service and many of his kids and step-kids spoke and there was lots of crying and it was lovely. The best part was at the end, when a lone bagpiper stood up up to play, and it wasn't until the first few notes that everyone realized it was the Michigan Fight song.

The one thing my uncle loved more than family as much as sailing, and during the morning before the service a big wind came up and my cousin Carlos said, "That's Jim, sailing away from us."

Oh, and my niece has discovered Buffy and it is her favorite show. We had the BEST time geeking out over it.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I'm glad there were good memories, Scrappy. Now go home and nap.

I am surprised at how much I want a baby bat.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Who’s classy now? Florida, again, as always! Here’s the new “vanity plate,” featuring America’s favorite (?) Christian star, Dead Jesus Hanging Off a License Plate With an Orange Behind His Head. This is gonna look sweet with a brass pair of Truck Nutz swingin’ down below.

eta: It's a vanity plate.

eta²: From another blog:

The Florida legislature has approved the sale of a Jesus Christ vanity license plate. When asked about the apparent lack of separation of church and state, Gov. Charlie Crist said, 'If they don’t want one they don’t have to buy one.'

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Aren't there roughly eighty billion things people can put on their license plates these days?

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

Oh, and my niece has discovered Buffy and it is her favorite show. We had the BEST time geeking out over it.

That's fantastic. I can't wait til my niece is old enough for that. (She's two, so it's going to be a while yet.)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That sounds great, all things considered, Scrappy.

Is the design from the state or is it from a private group that pays the state to make the plate available? I don't really think there's an issue if the latter is the case as long as it is treated like any other vanity plate design.

There's a lawsuit happening now about Illinois' refusal to issue "Choose Life" plates. It'll be interesting to see what the verdict will be.
