Right, there comes a point where you have to either move on, or just buy yourself a Klingon costume and go with it.

“Not dead yet!”

Well, that was surreal.

My father-in-law just called me, telling me he'd heard the Richard Harris version of "MacArthur Park" three times in the last two days on XM radio and he was wondering what in hell the song was about and was that the Richard Harris?

I... I'm still kind of shaking my head.

I'm so sorry, Perkins.

Punishingly Intricate

I am having issues with a higher up at work. Not someone I report to, but someone above my level. The person is not doing work that I need and it is affecting my ability to do meet deadlines.

ugh, this happened to me at my old job. I just made sure that my direct supervisor always knew what was going on. It's super annoying.

yes, we would love to have you. Email me what dates you are thinking of. We have Memorial Day plans, a wedding in June, and might vacate the city for july 4th, but that last one is pure speculation. Otherwise we are homebound all summer.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Air Canada has $135 ow flights to New York. Soooo tempting!

Doo eet!! (Seriously, I was going to post exactly that before msbelle beat me to it.)

The only remedy I've ever found for that is to CC the known world.

Also this. Although it doesn't always help -- I had a somewhat analogous situation yesterday, where I cced a bunch of people so that I would have to be the bad guy (when it's really not my place) and two of them responded to me directly -- one in person, one on the phone. Dudes! I copied you for backup, not moral support!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

he was wondering what in hell the song was about and was that the Richard Harris?

Well, see, Jimmy Webb was driving by the park and there had been a reception that got rained out. So there really was a wedding cake in the rain and he thought that was a sad metaphor for something.... Maybe that won't really help your dad.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Many sympathies, Perkins.

I have not directly complained up the chain. My supervisor is the problem person's supervisor also. My supervisor tends to deal with complaints by calling the problem person in immediatly when you are presenting the information - very confrontational and puts you on the spot if you are the one making the complaint. It makes me really uncomfortable.

hip deep in pie

Okay, I will do it. I was thinking later in the summer or even early fall...but we'll chat. I have to go to a meeting, but I will email you after lunch! Whee!

Coding and Sleeping

Sorry about your loss Perkins.

Sorry about your job situation msbelle. I suppose you could infiltrate the office at night and do the work in secret, they'll just think it's work elves. Are there any large air vents into the office or perhaps a suspended ceiling?
