A nurse at the ER today was surprised to find out I'm black. I was surprised to find out she thought it was a normal question to ask.
I've gotten questions about my race a bunch of times. Once in a while, from strangers on the street. (Once, at college, a guy stopped me on my way to the dining hall and asked, "You black?" I said no. He said, "You mixed?" I said no. He said, "OK," and turned away.)
