I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

David is right Sophia, you don't have the budget to help everyone who asks you. You are paying down debt. You should not feel guilty.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Thank you guys. I have been saying no (except for the young goth boy in eyeliner who asked me for a cigarette and 25 cents for the rest of his bus fare and then thanked me profusely), but it just hurts my heart sometimes. And I am sure in my work clothes I look much more wealthy than I am. I think I just need to think about te fact that if I pay off my debt, I could actually afford to help out in more significant ways.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

I have a budget of sorts in my head for giving. And it doesn't include people on the street or unknown charities hanging outside the grocery store. I have a fair amount of friends in need -- they get first dibs. after that I have a few places that matter to me . I do what I can do , and I don't feel guilt if I say no

that is part of why I budget -- some day I want to do more

Now tagless for your comfort.

I give directly to homeless shelters and food pantries. I've offered to buy panhandlers food, rather than give cash but have always been refused.

It's hard and I always feel guilty turning people down but I prefer to know my money's doing the most good.

sarameg, yay on the accepted counteroffer, by the way!

Kat, are you getting any backup from the administration on the plagiarizers? I'm shocked that a valedictorian candidate would risk getting caught.

Cheerleading coach? Wow. You're a good person and an awesome teacher. Crazy, but good.

Cash, not really. I mean sort of. But not really. In fact the AP was all, "Why didn't you report the other incidents of plagiarism?" Really? This school makes it clear that the preferred method of management is that teachers handle the things that relate to their classroom. Which is what I've done in the past. Then once he realized that the kid was already failing and that a zero on this assignment wouldn't make them fail more, then he backed down and was relieved. I think he was in CYA mode.

There is more to the story (as their always is). All of these kids have been admitted to college. One kid cheated on last term's final exam (he's the one in the running for valedictorian)

this is what they turned in as theirs

Cheerleading coach. For reals. Oh yeah. And I have to go to Prom this year to chaperone.

Sigh.

I've decided to donate my miata. I feel like I'm giving up my last vestige of youth. (Easy decision because the battery is going and when I opened the trunk, where the battery is to jump the car, it was filled with mold.... I haven't driven the car or even been in it since December and the seal on the trunk is obviously bad -- the rains have gotten it. Also easy because the car was broken into this fall and it just seems like a liability with no real payoff).

Also, who'd win in a fight? Donut or cupcake?

Eclair? Isn't that like a hybrid?

Upon reflection, it seems like I'd prefer cupcakes, but I probably enjoy donuts more. It's sugary and fried.
