I went to college with him! We had friends in common, though he wouldn't remember me. Still, it's been super exciting to see him do so much great work and be recognized for it.
He's close with people I know from college. The Tony-winning husband of my college friend. It kinda blows me away. I lurves him.

So, how popular was Off Broadway outside of the Chicago area? A friend of mine was surprised I'd heard a lot of their songs growing up in Wisconsin.
Their album On is full of great pop songs.

They did have a track on Rhino's Power Pop compilation, but basically they're only known to power pop nerds.
