Gothamist has a link to an entire Replacements documentary.
Saw that in a theater earlier this year. It's... odd. Basically an oral history as told by fans, some famous, some not. The band doesn't appear in the film, nor does any of their music. It was well put together, but I couldn't help thinking that it would have worked just as well as a book.
Quick survey: if you were to choose one song to represent Prince's 80s oeuvre, which one would you pick?
My first thought was Purple Rain, but I think
When Doves cry might be my real answer.
I'm trying to think of something everyone would recognize and that unites party/sexual Prince and spiritual/serious Prince. "Let's Go Crazy," probably. (Although "1999" works, too.)
I'm tending towards "Let's Go Crazy" too. "When Doves Cry" would be my other choice.
"When Doves Cry" or "Kiss."
I think "When Doves Cry."
"When Doves Cry" has the great screaming at the end, though.
