Buffista Music 4: Needs More Cowbell!

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I can't check whether or not this link still is valid while I'm at work, but you should be able to watch the Playmobil version side-by-side with the original here.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Damon Krukowski (Galaxie 500 and Damon & Naomi) on Various Positions by Leonard Cohen

Huh. Interesting. He mostly agrees with me on it, I see. It's my favorite of the Cohen albums, as a whole.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Doris Day recently turned 89. She gave a rare radio interview last fall, and it's pretty fascinating if you're fan.

She sounds great - she sounds like...Doris Day. And cheerful and laughing. She goes into detail about the car accident she suffered as a teenager which stopped her dancing career and forced her to singing career.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Psst! Patti Smith fans, rock and roll lovers, punks and poets, I've got one of the greatest bootlegs of all time for you.

Patti Smith, Teenage Perversity and Ships in the Night (1976).

Part 1

Part 2

Great sound, amazing performance, stellar playing, cool covers, surprising guest stars (John Cale! Iggy!).

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Thanks for that, David! I'm downloading part 1 now and will grab part 2 in the morning.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I think it's better than any of her studio albums.

You really get a sense of her shamanic rock and roll quality here.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Grrr, mine won't unzip properly. Might not be a good link.

Is it not unzipping, or it is that your 'puter doesn't know what to do with .shn files? My downloads unzipped fine. I use a Windows utility called Traders Little Helper to convert them to .wav or .mp3. Not sure what the best Mac equivalent is.

That one!

I've got some utilities that can change formats. I didn't even think to do that.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

If you like old school jaunty Billie Holiday type jazz, my HS friend Linnzi has a new cd out! [link]
