"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

those other problematic artists have never tried to represent themselves as progressive and open-to-in-depth-discussion artists. Motley Crue? No one batted an eye at their misogynistic assholery, because people knew what they were getting.

I get the distinction but I don't know if it's entirely fair that Crue get a bye as a function of their asshollery.

But basically it sounds like she did a big flounce-off.

That's exactly what she did. After presenting herself as a creator who wouldn't do that sort of thing.

I get the distinction but I don't know if it's entirely fair that Crue get a bye as a function of their asshollery.

No one ever expected Crue to have any sort of dialog with their fans other than "Did you bring drugs? Why aren't you naked yet?" Whereas AP did foster expectations of open communication and dialog with her fans.

Social media has changed the game, no doubt. Just from my perspective, there aren't a lot of places where I post whatever comes into my head, AND I don't engage in arguments with people who bait me about GCS. (And there have been some who've tried.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

So would her behavior preclude you from getting her next album?

Well, I didn't buy the Evelyn Evelyn album, and I *was* going to. And I haven't purchased anything else she's released.

At this point, I'm waiting to see what she does, and my willingness to do so doesn't have a lot to do with her, but because she's friends with someone who I trust the opinions of. (Note, NOT because she's married to Neil. I adore Neil, but his weakness for the manic pixie/crazy artist girl type is not any sort of secret.)

And what is their opinion of her?

That she's got a huge heart, will do whatever she can for friends, but she can be thoughtless and doesn't deal well with criticism.

Y'know, I've never actually seen/heard much of it. I suppose I should fix that.

Edgar Wright (dir. of Scott Pilgrim) loves it and comments about it here over the trailer.
