Hi, all. I haven't posted in here before, but I want to share... My niece's band, ThisMeansYou, won a contest - Metal Blade's "Search for the Next Great Metal Band" contest. She is awfully excited. The band won at Ozzfest a few years ago, and I'm not sure what that was about, but apparently there was a tv appearance. She also told me that their music is now available on iTunes and Pandora, which is even more exciting, to me.
So, if you're into metal, check out a few of their songs, and tell me what you think. I think they are really really good. Kim has wanted to be a rockstar since she was two. It would be amazing if they got a record deal!
crossposting with Natter, because I can't shut up
Music Emmett and I listened to while driving all over the South (via iPod and jack):
Guns 'N Roses
Nickelback
AC/DC
Snoop Dogg
Eminem
Outkast
Neutral Milk Hotel
Allman Brothers
Song we sang along with on the radio:
"All My Exes Live in Texas" - George Strait
Also, I went shopping at Wuxtry and bought vinyl there.
It really was double-excllent, Sumi!
I recommend it. Particularly because flea's husband is a seriously accomplished pie-maker.
So really, there was no reason to delete.
Pie AND good record stores. (And of course, good friends.) What more could you ask for on a road trip?

Barbecue. Which we also had.
Plus: dachsund puppy, new kitten, sparklers, fireflies, old family photographs, swimming pools, baseball games and episodes of Avatar.
Sounds like a blast -tripwise. (Even though the occasion for the trip was sad.)
I am glad Wuxtry was worthwhile!

It was more wake-like than sad for the most part. It was really good to see my Aunt Edna and my cousins. They hadn't seen me since I was 4.
Also great to introduce my niece Crystal to that side of the family. Her father just died recently and she's been feeling unmoored and there's actually a whole side of the family living just half an hour from her.
I had a funny/weird bonding moment with my cousins Jeanie, Connie and Malcolm when we were sorting out all the kids and ages and I realized that all of us (my sister too) had divorced and remarried and had children from two marriages. They also had the weird spacing thing that seems to happen in my family with 8 to 10 year gaps between kids.
I am glad Wuxtry was worthwhile!
It totally was. Though I was far more blown away by the Wuxtry comics store than the record store. It was a fantastic rambly mess. I scored an American Maid (from The Tick) figure for $6. I kept thinking: "Scola should be here."
