"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

What are people doing this weekend? This is the first weekend that I can remember in a very long time that neither TCG nor I have any social obligations at all. Our plans include finally taking down the Christmas tree, doing a little clean up of the apartment, and hopefully going to see a movie.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I have a Saturday off! But I have no plans.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

Watching the Eagles win (hopefully). Watching a run thru of the show, if I'm feeling better. I don't want to pass along ick to actors. Bad idea. Getting ready for next 2 weeks of hell of putting new show up on the stage.

SIS IS HOME!
Yipee!!!!
omnis, man, with her giant bag on her shoulder she went STRAIGHT for the cookies. Even before hugging my mom.
Looks like I won the bellies of the daughters of that family. Too bad the mother hates me AND they are half a world away from me. :: sigh ::

So? did the brownies not make it? Where they pulverized flat or something? Stolen along the way? Or just not good. I tasted the cookies, not the brownies. Either way, glad the cookies are helping bring joy to you and your family!!!

Omnis, those may be the best cookies that I'll never get a chance to taste.
Windsparrow, I have to say, those were the best batch I ever made too. Just a hint of crisp on the outside, chewey on the inside, and yummy all around. I'd offer to make you a batch, but I'm afraid I won't be able to recreate that perfection again. I may never bake Choco Chip cookies again t /dramatic talk (that last sentance should be said like Eddie Izzard, ftr).

Ugg. The ick has descended. Sinuses full. Achy/painy all over. No fever, so I take that as a good sign it will pass quickly... please.

Pix, I hope you and ND have a wonderfully romantic date night tonight. Flowers. Candles. Cooing. Laughing. Just pushing the outside world away for a few hours.

Shir, first glad your sister was home safe and got some cookies.

Secondly, in terms "what else could we do". Jimmy Carter makes a good case that there was another path:

BTW, you don't have to tell me that HAMAS commits war crimes. Absolutely they do. But I still hold Israel responsible because Israel still has more of the power in this situation.

Incidentally, I don't know that terrorism is the core problem. Terror is a tactic, generally adapted by people who have few choices. That does not make it valid choice. But, OK here is an argument that can show you that terror is not the core problem. I can tell you how we could stop Hamas terror tomorrow and make the problem worse at the same time. It is a counterfactual something that would never happen in the real world, but nonetheless makes a point about why "terror" perse is not the problem.

Suppose the U.S. made an agreement with Hamas. Our government would supply Hamas with high precision long range misslies, infrastructure and targeting information so long as Hamas confined attacks to military targets in Israel. It would be inforceable, because such systems take a lot of supplies and support, so Hamas would have a major incentive to stick to military targets so long as supplies continues.

At this point Hamas would be able to target military bases, barracks, traing camps, support infrastructure intelligence services and kill a lot more Israelis, all legitamate military targets. "Terror" by Hamas would be ended, but the situation would be worse not better. I think that illustrates the fundamental problem with Hamas is not just that they are terrorists.

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

What are people doing this weekend?

Writing four tests and driving five hours to get my cat.

Also, replaying Final Fantasy 8 because one of my students finally convinced me it was stupid to skip one of the GFs so I'd better go back and restart.

But yay, cat!

What are people doing this weekend?

Writing a new GCS lesson, going dancing (I think - I'd better go email the Stunt Husband), and playing the create new outfits from the overstuffed wardrobes game. Which I find soothing.

Oh, and as a companion to that game, I might be trying an iPhone app a friend of mine just told me about: Touch Closet -- a tool to catalog your clothing & create outfits on your iPhone. Doooooooood! Take pix of every item you own, then mix 'n match.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Too bad the mother hates

She doesn't! And the brownies made it too, I'm just saving them for later. And feel better~ma. And when reading the cookies posts with Typo Boy's tagline... makes one ponder.

Typo Boy, I'll read that link later. But as for now, first: Israel is responsible, sure. But it's not the only responsible, and I think that's where we differ.

Second, I know Hamas aren't just terrorists. I know they did good things, too. I'm not sure how the situation you described will make the situation worse: it'll just make it different. Maybe actual "war", army vs. army (and it'll be suffice to say that no army ever won a guerrilla organization). But say that Hamas wouldn't have used the time, money and energy into terror since Israel evacuated the settlements from the Strip in the summer of 2005 (something that, btw, I was recruited to and was supportive of). Say it would have had invest them in building constructions, make the lives of the population there better. Even with the closure. Wouldn't the whole situation looked different by now? Now, I know that isn't the case, since it was one-sided. But they could have used it for so much more than just building up with weapon and gear.

I know! But that was the thing I admired most about that movie, so ...

Plus, it would be helpful on thrifting expeditions! I would (theoretically) stop picking up jackets and blouses that are almost exactly the same as stuff I already own! (Really. It would help. Why are you giving me that look?)

Sounds fun! Your lesson before last broke me. I need to learn how to play the new outfit game. I've bought some pretty new pieces lately, but I need to make outfits out of them.
