My 1989 Pontiac Grand Am was just totaled.
I had parked it out front in the parking space and someone came by, smashed into it, down to the back wheels, and then DROVE OFF!.
The trunk lid is accordioned, the bumper is about an inch off the ground, and the trunk is caved in.
I originally called the police on the non-emergency line, until I got out there and saw how bad it was, and I called 911, in case the driver was hurt somewhere.
They left their License plate behind for the cops, though. The cops found the car abandoned six blocks down.
I'm glad I was not in it, but I now have no car, again.
Jesus H., Daniel. I'm beyond sorry about the car, but I am way, way, way happy you weren't in it.
Whoa.
Damn, Daniel. I'm glad you weren't in the car!
OMG! Daniel! Thank goodness you are safe. But. oMG! I hope it wasn't stolen. But, the license plate sure helps to contact insurance. Much insurance~ma your way.
Oh, dear. I hope insurance comes through for you quickly, Daniel.
was this the car that was breaking down all the time? Is this a blessing in disguise (once all the insurance headaches are dealt with?) Just trying to find a silver lining. Ya, I know. People want to slap me silly for that. It's a burden I carry.
Nope, this was the one I bought last January. Well, this one had some problems, too, but they went away with new spark plugs.
Andi found it on Craigslist the morning of my office Christmas Party, and I bought it a few hours later.
I just put a whole new exhaust system on it this summer after the F2F.
I really liked this car. We named it Shadow.
What the fuck, Daniel?? That's crazy.
In fact, I just got back in from scavenging what I could in the sub-freezing damp of outside.
Mostly I scavenged tools and parts from the trunk that I could bend metal to get at, stuff from the glove box, scrapers and shoes, etc.
I was able to wriggle out the short square spade that my dad bought for me the week before he died. I was glad to find that that was unharmed.
Maybe I'll find another Grand Am. This one was fun to zip around in.
DJ, that sucks. I know how much you liked working there.
DCJ, that also sucks, particularly the hit-and-run aspect. I hope they catch him, in part because someone who can't avoid a parked car, something which rarely does anything surprising, might not avoid a car with people in it.
