You around over the holidays?
I am. Shall we play?
(Also, I was just about to look you up for a recycling/reuse question when you appeared -- we don't want our old but working stove to go for scrap metal if it can be reused by someone instead; is that feasible around these parts? good places to donate? or is it like the computer recycling where yuppies feel like they're doing good but nobody actually wants the stuff and it gets dumped on the developing world after all?)
I think we should maybe play. Perhaps I can even drag KBD out of his mancave, though it's doubtful. Amyth is gone pretty much the whole time. I'll be in the *other* point of the Triangle for a few days around Xmas, but just a few.
If it's older than 5 yrs, Habitat won't take it. However, for example, we have a "Friends of [county name] Social Service" group that has much less stringent standards. I would look for something like that or perhaps a church group that helps people after fires.
Lemme know if you can't find anything.
eta don't hesitate to call your municipal waste management peeps - they may have some good ideas.
My Sociocultural Perspectives on Education teacher was Chicana -- and blonde and blue-eyed. She said the rest of her family looks much more typically Mexican (that is, European-Mexican, not Native Mexican) and her looks have led to quite a lot of confusion.
I am so full of gronk and crank today. I'd like to go home and cuddle with kittens, please.
Me, too, GC. Kittens, puppies, cats, Buffistas, KBD... all good options. As long is cuddling is involved and perhaps slightly mournful music, like Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter.
Boy there's a lot of making out going on around here.
it's not in the public domain (I think the counter is all the way up to 1923 on that? At any rate, way before the 60s...), and the newspaper's current existence doesn't matter either way. HOWEVER, the kind of brief quotation you're describing is widely considered to be fair use even though the material is copyrighted
See, I can never remember how far back it goes-- whether it's fifty years or seventy-five or if it's something that's set by a certain year rather than a passage of time. I know that with song lyrics, we've been very strongly cautioned against using even small snippets and attempting to invoke "fair use" however, I suspect it's something that varies from house to house.
Write what you want, keep a list of where the headlines come from, and let the publisher's rights office sweat it if they worried that the use isn't fair.
Definitely.
if you spread your headlines among different papers and don't copy any of the article that goes with them, it's going to be considered de minimis -- the courts won't concern themselves with a trifle.
So noted. I was planning on using different papers anyhow, so this is good.
If only I was happy with little three weeks later leads. Oy.

Hiya, Smonster! [waves vaguely eastward]
Smishes smonster
I have my first mammogram in 2 hours. Not the kind of groping I had in mind.
