[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Are you now an even better librarian, GC?

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Congratulations, Glamcookie!!! You should do something fun to celebrate.

That sounds really interesting, Hil. Though the title suggests there was a Dreamworlds I, huh?

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Yeah, there was a Dreamworlds I, and there's also now a Dreamworlds III. I think that II was the one that we watched.

In the discussion in class after we watched the video, most of us felt that it was overly manipulative -- the images were taken way too far out of context, and intercutting with The Accused was adding a level of violence that simply wasn't in the music videos. (We also watched an interview with the director, who was a professor, where he said that he'd started on this topic by showing whole music videos to his class, and they were singing along with the songs, so he tried muting them, but that still didn't get his students to have the reaction he wanted, so he put together the isolated scenes -- none of these cuts is more than about three seconds long -- and they still weren't reacting the way he wanted them to. He didn't get the reaction he wanted until he put in the scene from The Accused.)

(We had a standing rule in this class that, since some of the things we watched might be disturbing to some people, anyone was free at any time to get up and wait in the hall until a disturbing scene was over. That video was the only time anyone ever actually did that.)

The intro to Dreamworlds 3 is up at YouTube: [link] It looks like it's essentially the same as Dreamworlds II, except with newer videos. (Note: there are a few scenes in there that could be triggering. Not The Accused, but some other stuff.)

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

ok today wordpress ( my blog site) changed the interface. Then, I had to use vodpod ( also new to me) to embed the preview for The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice. Too much learning for a day when I only went to work for a few hours.

But vampires and librarians- worth it.

Ooh, thanks for the link, Hil!!

I'm trying to get some stuff done tonight--it feels so much later than 6:30, good grief! But I'm also hitting that "good lord, I've been dating someone and now I'm that awful person who never sees her friends" and also "I need to get out and so STUFF, rather than just hang out and watch movies and go to bars." Must find more interesting evening activities to go to--in DC I knew what was going on, I was plugged in, but I haven't been making the effort here. Sigh.

I am so proud--I made brussels sprouts for the first time! And they came out OK! Go me!!

...somehow, though, when I bought food, I ended up with stuffing, cranberry sauce, and brussels sprouts. I should've bought, like, a chicken breast. Or some rotisserie. Or something. Oh well.

Also, brussels sprouts + bacon salt FTW

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

iwillnotkillmymotheriwillnotkillmymotheriwillnotkillmymother.

So, we're taking my great aunt back to florida. my mother's brilliant plan involves an eight hour round trip drive and a flight that doesn't leave until 4pm on saturday.

she calls tonight (third call of the day) and says "what's the plan for friday" I discover that she hasn't made hotel reservations because she "didn't realize how the reservations worked" (umm, you made them? we talked about them before?) Sh claims "you're the driver, you make the decision" So, I say "let's just drive back and stay in a hotel" Of course, the idea of me making the decision is bullshit, because she goes on about how if we don't stay with my great aunt her feelings will be hurt. WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST FUCKING SAY THAT?!!?!? Just say "hey, I think that we should plan to stay with Aunt B on Friday night" Don't pretend that there's an option.
