I am not...I am not the damsel in distress. I am not some case. I have to work this. I've lived in a cave for 5 years in a world where they killed my kind like cattle. I am not going to be cut down by some monster flu. I am better than that. What a wonder...how very scared I am.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Nice, Daisy.

Ooh, we had some interview weirdness today. This woman was with one of our competitors up until July and she had told HR, and repeated to us today, that she left in order to help her husband start up an at-home web design business.

What actually happened was she was laid off. And we knew this because she asked a connection to put in a good word for her, which did get put, and basically said "her position was eliminated, she's fantastic, you should totally hire her."

And we still might - she's still one of our leading candidates. But if we don't, I'd really like to pass word back along the chain to her. Being laid off is not something anyone is looking askance at these days. Leaving your job in this economy in the way she described and then going back out hunting full time again like three months later? Now that had us raising our eyebrows.

Even leaving aside the awkwardness of what she was saying v. what we knew to be the truth, seriously, the lay off is the better story. And frankly, is what we're hearing from easily half or more of all the people we've seen anyway. It won't hurt you.

Relatedly: OMG will I ever be done with interviewing? I feel like we've been doing this forever. It's been for multiple positions - at least four or five if I'm not forgetting something - so it's not just that we can't find someone. But god, endless.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Thanks, Kathy. Very interesting, though I never quite landed my eyes on the bit I was remembering. And I bookmarked the website so I could explore more later.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

Yeah, I think the only action with the oven was the granola at the end. I've seen the episode several times, and I just re-read the transcript, and I really don't remember a tip like you described in that episode. You may be mixing it up with another show on Food Network?

All is well that ends in pizza.

I was shocked by how reasonable our wedding caterer was. The site required we use her so really she could have charged the moon, but instead because the site drove so much business to her her prices were seriously 1/3rd of what the other caterers demanded. Plus the food was good.

Andi and I have discussed catering by Famous Dave's.

...should the um...need arise, um...eventually...that is.

Oh look! the Goodrich blimp!

t runs away

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

...Goodrich doesn't *have* a blimp!

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I got a sudden craving for cupcakes. While I do have a whole book of cupcake recipes I want to try, it's too late and I'm too tired to make cupcakes. There's a vegan bakery here in DC that I've been wanting to try; maybe, if I finish my grading in time tomorrow, I'll go there and get myself a birthday cupcake.

That sounds like an excellent plan. Be sure to. Report back to us on the cupcakes.

Cupcake updates are always cheering.

Question: calling a stranger who is obviously older than you "young man" is acting like a condescending asshole, right? Or am I being too judgmental?

It's asking to be punched in the face, is what it is.

Or possibly I'm a little stressed.
