I'm not anywhere near processing the news about my friend, but I've decided yesterday that I need to live really well. Like really, really, really well, and enjoy and appreciate every single moment, and be brave and daring and cheeky and cook and drink. For her. And make sure the plans we made together will come true.
Make sure you do it for
you
too, you know? Be happy for two of you. (I'm quite literally weeping for you right now, btw)
Need bubblewrap. Work laptop is fucking with my head. Mac MAIL program can't get e-mail. Keeps saying "password rejected", but the password works fine with the online access. I think it's called POP cuz that's what you want to do it.
Thanks for the birthday wishes! I get chocolate and ice cream tonight!
I am amazed at how many facebook messages I got today! Is there a birthday reminder program or are people just much more on the ball than I am?
Shir, I am so very sorry for the loss of your friend. Her artwork is amazing. I'm sure she will be with you in spirit.
Teppy, sorry the vertigo is still sucktastic. Hopefully the front will move the crap with it when it goes.
Medical-ma for Daniel. Test-ma for Sox. Hairpats and glitter for them what needs it.
Pumpkin Spice with Maple Ginger cupcakes:
Job-ma for Matt! (Also Sail, too.)
Trudy, that is great news! All my continued-fast-recovery-ma for A.
Kids today! I put out an ad for a graduate student assistant (since the motherfuckers won't hire anyone permanent for me). The ad said something to the effect of "looking for an organized, focused, detail oriented, graduate student to assist me in my office. 10-15 hours per week and would consist mostly of general office work (filing, typing, data entry, etc.) the hours are flexible"
I get a response "I certainly could use a stress-free job two days a week (T,W or TH) while completing my dissertation this semester. "
What part of office job says "stress free"? And even if you thought that, why would you say it!
Steph,
I came in here because of a misplaced Joe the Plumber discussion.
There was an article I read in August sometime from a woman whose allergies were so bad that she lost her sense of smell. She was going to have some invasive surgery on her sinuses to clear her head, but she decided against it - I cannot remember why.
She traveled for a bit to the east coast (she was living in California at the time) and after being there for a few days, she noticed her sense of smell came back. So she now makes it a point to spend some time outside of California during the really bad allergy season so she can taste food again (!)
Steph, maybe you need to vacation and go some place different so your head can clear up?
Happy birthday, d!
On the bright side, I've seen our lovely Nilly lecturing today about the Buffyverse in the biggest local SF&F convention, ICon. It was awesome.
I was going to say, "I can't believe Nilly didn't tell us about this," but, no, really, I can believe it. Of all the giant-brained delightful geniuses I know (which is actually rather a lot, when I really consider all the people I know), Nilly is the most modest and self-effacing and aw-shucks-it's-nothing.
