My brother is in the hospital just having spinal surgery. The bad news: 4 hours after surgery he still has not talked to a doctor to get a report back on success. His surgery took four hours: the normal range for this surgery is 90 minutes to 4 hours. Even with fairly strong pain meds he is still in pain. Given these two things, he would really like one of the fuckin doctors to discuss how sucessful or not the surgery was. yeah, he knows that you won't know for sure until there are results, but he'd like to know stuff like was there stuff they could not get? Did they have to do anything that might cause damage? I mean there are things the doctors do know immediately , and he'd really like to know them too.

So it was a long day. This morning while slaving over a hot copy machine, DD walked in and told me that I looked "appropriate" (comments from others were elegant, feminine and refined). several appreciated the move toward Neo-Victorian and said they can't wait to see what I pull out next.

During the day DD appeared and wanted to do a 'lesson plan' check. He then went over my plans as if he was looking for a mistake. And he wonders why I act like I don't want to see him or talk to him!

The English classes have between 11 and 25 students while the Drama class has 36. The school still insists the Drama class "can't" be split into 2 classes. Then we had a faculty meeting at the end of the day because DD wanted us to have ice cream. And he sends students around every period to the teachers without planning periods to offer room temperature water or granola bars. (but, according to him, there isn't enough money in the budget for 'extras'?)

So my feet hurt. I have to type up vocabulary for tomorrow and figure out some notes. I still don't understand what all they want done with the classes.

As of now we are having school tomorrow. If the storm looks too bad they may dismiss early. I know there is a 100% chance of rain tomorrow; however, we are hopeful the storm won't be too bad.

Hope the other Florida ~istas are going to be OK, too!

ETA~one of my female students outed herself to me today. I'm the first adult she has told, as well as one of the few people she has told. She says she realized it this summer and then things started to make sense. She's so upset because she thinks her parents will hate her and cut her off from the family. (in this area, it's a possibility) She's also worried about how people will react around her, now. Poor kid...
