Happy Wedding, GC!
As bad as the situation is, if I hear the sound clip of Dubya saying that Russia should not be seeking "regime change" in Georgia, my eyes will roll out of my head
Seriously. Are they living in a fucking parallel universe?
McCain: "In the 21st Century, nations don't invade other nations.
Rice: This is not 1968," said US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice emphatically at a Washington news conference, "where Russia can...occupy a capital, overthrow a government and get away with it.
Even for this bunch, this is a staggering level of delusion and obliviousness. What the hell are they on?
Nora, I think being laid off is so common these days that it no longer has much, if any, negative connotation. You could say something like "Economic conditions caused my company to cut staff based on seniority, but my supervisor there will attest to my (competence, work ethic, knowledge of programming, whatever)."
Nora, I think your letter sounds right on. (And FWIW, I'm right in the middle of a hiring process, so I'm in that mindset very much these days.)
I'm with Steph on the "Honorable" thing. Personally, I'd probably go with simply John Doe and Jane Smith and leave titles out entirely.
Re: my previous post with the note for the hiring people for Tom: is ot OK to tell them that he has been laid off? Is this a bad? Or just reality?
Personally, I don't think I'd tell them about the layoff, but keep in the "reorganization" bit. Spelling out the layoff might sound like he's pressuring them for an answer rather than trying to get them to move on considering. Does that make sense? My coffee is broken this morning.
vw, since you were invited to a family meal, not a wedding, I say relax the rules and address the envelope to Jane Smith & John Doe.

No, no, no. You're missing the unspoken "...that's America's job. We're just sayin'."

That's what CBD just said. So, that's what I'm doing.
Also, he thinks I'm crazy to be writing a thank you note for dinner.

Just wait until his parents invite you back and not him because they like you better. So there!

Happy Wedding Day, GC and STBDW!!

Uh, when I read your post, I was seized with guilt for not writing a thank-you note for the first time The Boy's parents had us over for dinner.
Congrats, GC and fiancee!
