The UW women's teams are, unfortunately, the Husky Women.
I have found that checking and questioning my assumptions is a good thing. Mostly, I do it in the context of anti-racist self-education. Lots of things that don't seem loaded or harmful from inside the privilege (spelling hard on phone) bubble are, once you step outside it.
Oh, and I meant to add: Scrappy, I'm glad your BiL is getting some family help.

I use "lady" all the time. In a jokey, reclamation way I guess. For example, I like to call our restroom at work (we have one & I'm the only woman here) the "Ladies Room." And I like to talk about my delicate ladyparts. Mostly in a pain caused by bike riding context.
And I hate the "Lady Whozzit" teams for reasons everyone has stated. That was one of the great things about going to an all-girl's high school. All the teams were Raiders. whatever that means.
I can't imagine a man calling me "Little lady" with a straight face but if they did there'd be balls a'hurtin.
Hell, any team would have a bump in their super-awesome quotient with a name like the Mighty Fightin' Whatnots.
I keep reading this as Mighty Fighty Whatnots, which I like even better.
