I just had a pretty cool phone call from a co-worker. Her husband is a lawyer at a small firm, and they're looking for someone to work the front office on Sunday afternoons for a few hours to greet clients, give them a questionaire, make them comfortable, all the usual stuff, and she thought of me! I'm calling him this afternoon and seeing what they're looking for and how much they're looking to pay.
This just makes me really happy because (a) she apparently doesn't view my weight as a customer service issue, something I wish more people would do, and (b) she immediately thought of me when he was looking for someone personable who could make people at ease.

Roxanna (the co-worker) will hand off phone calls to me to make because she gets uncomfortable sometimes, but I just love chatting with city and state workers while tracking down info. Not only does it brighten up their day to have someone not bitching at them, but I occasionally make contacts that come back to reward me (with info that hasn't made it to their websites but they're willing to e-mail me as soon as they get it).

Not that I have anything against people who are bitter and cynical when they are my friends, but you should come off that way *intentionally*, if that's your plan...
