Natter 60: Gone In 60 Seconds
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Am I an anomaly of my generation that I never watched the original 90210 and have yet to watch any Dawson's, GG, One Tree Hill, and only fragments of The OC
These are unknown to me too. And yet I read the whitefont. In general there are many shows where I enjoy the Buffista commentary more than the actual show. Saves a lot of time and heartache.
A male VP candidate with a 4 month old Downs baby and a 17 year old pregnant daughter would NOT cause the same stir.
Honestly, it would with me. Parenting 5 children including a special needs baby and a pregnant teen is more than a full time job for both parents. Leader of the land is also a more than full time job. I'm not saying a parent with so much on their plate couldn't do the job, but there sure as hell are a large number of people that could do it better that don't have the family obligations. But, what do family values have to do with it anyway, right? Do politicians claim to have those?
There is no choice that McCain could have made that would have secured him my vote, but there are many that I would have considered an excellent choice. Palin was not.
ION, as of 5:40 this morning I am a great aunt, again. Savannah Miller weighing in at 8lb 5oz. That was the info provided by her great grandma via email. Yay babies!
I am so tired of Sarah Palin already. I think it's news embargo time.
Yay babies!
I know Evan Bayh stepped back when people were starting to talk about him running for president because he had twin babies and wanted to spend more time with them, so it's not unheard of for a man to make political decisions based on family situations.
Just hearing here that the Palin kids didn't know until they arrived in Ohio...? I am nearly sputtering with outrage as to what that says about family dynamics. Yet more evidence that McCain's choice was last-minute and ill-conceived in every way.
Listen, the guy has had at least 24 months to consider his VP choice, and since he clinched the nomination many months ago, a hell of a long run-up to interview possible candidates. And yet, it's clear that Palin was a sudden decision, hardly vetted at all (hell, YES, the vetters should have interviewed all the kids except for the infant), chosen because it will placate possible voters and satisfy the RNC cabal, not because she would in any way continue McCain's political opinion should he (more likely than average) die or become incapacitated in office.
flea, we can embargo here, but you're going to have to shut off the TV, avoid the newspapers, and also probably not look at LJ or parenting sites at least until November 4th, providing she doesn't step down, which given her stubbornness and the RNC's cultural inability to admit a mistake, isn't going to happen.
I think it's news embargo time.
I just had to make that decision.
Edited--just on my teevee, not here. Discussion doesn't bother me. The constant stream of pundits on my television is making me nauseated.
Looks like my news is coming from The Daily Show this week!
I think it's news embargo time.
I was avoiding it until the conventions hit then I was sucked in. It is probably a good thing that most of the big people speak after I am in bed. It won't be good for my mental health to follow it this closely for another 2 months. Time for new tv shows! Watched on delay to avoid political commercials. We are already getting slammed with ads from both sides. Ugh.
We have been watching Friday Night Lights. (Up to 1x12) We have a large number of shows that we all like that are backed up waiting for us to watch together. Between work, school, and the sports we get to watch about 1 episode a day. Tough to get 4 of us free at the same time.
Yeah, I quit watching news on television years ago. It's much better for my blood pressure when I can read it and form my own opinions without having to listen to the talking heads. Only exceptions are Jon Stewart and last week, when Fay (the storm) was bearing down on us, I would leave on the local 11PM news a couple of nights, but that infuriated me so much, I couldn't handle it. They'd tell you the position of the storm and then cut to the human interest stories with respect to the storm, not actually talking about the damned storm itself. I mean, I'm sorry, when you have a hurricane bearing down on you, you don't cut away from the position of the storm and when/where predicted landfall is going to be in order to show us the storm surge at St. Augustine with the idiots who think it's a good idea to surf or yet another toppled oak tree.
So yeah... I don't watch the news. Not if I can help it.
Just hearing here that the Palin kids didn't know until they arrived in Ohio...?
I'm not sure this is as weird as it sounds. Young kids and teenagers are not known for their poker faces. That doesn't mean I don't think the whole game of vp choices is altogether healthy, but I do understand why the campaigns (and the people on the short list) want to keep things under wraps.
Dear Journalists:
Every time Sarah P. shoves her family in our faces and tells us how wonderful and happy they all are, could you please ignore the bait she's throwing at you and ask a substantive policy question? I'd appreciate your cooperation in this matter of informing the US voting population about the actual issues we're facing as a country today.
Cheers! Me
