'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

She's got all the signs of being able to be led easily by pushing the right buttons, that worked so well for the Neocons with Bush II.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Maybe global warming is an Alaskan plot to make the Bering Strait deeper, thus making it harder for the Russians to invade....

Ooh, they're crafty!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Yet another Palin scandal, this one worse than all the others:

ALASKA PIPELINE: Amy Gwin, 43, of University City, grew up in Alaska and competed in the Miss Wasilla, Alaska, competition in 1984 against GOP vice presidential choice Sarah Palin. Gwin said Friday that she won the Miss Congeniality award in the competition, although Palin's Wikipedia entry says she won the contest — and the Miss Congeniality award. Gwin was a year behind Palin, now 44, at Wasilla High School, which had about 800 students. Gwin said Palin was "a high school star in a good way," a beauty who got good grades and excelled at athletics. Gwin, who was president of her class, does not recall Palin holding school office. The Wikipedia entry on Palin said she was head of the school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes and captain of the basketball team.

Palin was a high school star, says schoolmate

I think that the best evidence of Palin's unfitness for office is accepting McCain's invitation. The VPship isn't a lottery prize that you take without serious and long consideration. At least Romney and Lieberman and a long list of other possible choices he had had seriously sought high office and had a long time to consider what they were getting into.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

not your mom's socks.

from a conversation this morning:

"of course she's qualified! She was mayor of a town and ran her own fishing business! She'll be great and really shake up DC."

Me: "..."

"I'm a little concerned that she's so evangelical and all that*, of course, but maybe being around different people in DC will help her see a different way of thinking about things."

Me: "!...!!!"

"Do you know where she went to college? And why do you think she isn't a good choice?"

Me: very controlled, because of who was doing the asking. "Idaho. And I think that there are some very interesting candidates who have more experience by far, especially when it comes to national politics and foreign policy. If they were looking for a gender-specific pick, why in the world didn't they look at someone like Rice, or [list of female, republican senators and long-time governors here], or ....?"

"Oh wow. I wonder why they didn't look at Rice."

I look more rad than Lutheranism

"Oh wow. I wonder why they didn't look at Rice."

It's my firm belief that ANY remotely qualified Republican woman politician would have (and MAY have) laughed in McCain's face. Hence, Palin.

Today is not the day key people need to take long lunches, damnit.

Desk is organized! There are still two Deadly Drawers that I need to deal with, but just looking at it, no one can tell that.

Also need to figure out where/how to store my comic books. I've never had to deal with that before. Boxes, I guess. But what kind? So much to consider.

“Not dead yet!”

Not comic books, but the Hub would store all his old Dragon mags in plastic bags with the cardboard sleeves to keep them stiff, then file them in the plastic filing boxes that you can pick up at Staples or Target.
